Marjorie Taylor Greene Calls the Iran War an America First Betrayal
Marjorie Taylor Greene was on the front lines for Donald Trump when the neocons had abandoned him.
She believed him when he said America First meant exactly that.
Now she is calling the Iran war what it is – "always a lie and always America Last."
Speaking on The Megyn Kelly Show this week, Greene did not hold back.
She reminded viewers that Trump, JD Vance, Tulsi Gabbard, and Pete Hegseth stood on stage after stage and promised no more foreign wars, no more regime change.
One year into the second term, America is in its most significant military conflict since Iraq and Afghanistan – with no congressional declaration of war.
Greene pointed to the numbers that matter most to every American family – 72% of Americans cannot afford health insurance, 58% cannot afford car insurance, 67% live paycheck to paycheck.
Her question to Washington was the one every America First conservative deserves an answer to: how much is this war going to cost?
Pete Hegseth told the country that morning that America did not start this war.
Greene disagreed – and said so directly: "America and Israel definitely started this war, and you can't lie that way to the American people."
She put the debt figure on the table.
Nearly $40 trillion.
And four Americans already dead for a conflict the president launched at 3 a.m. without asking Congress.
Rand Paul and Thomas Massie Push War Powers Resolution as American Troops Die in Iran
Sen. Rand Paul did not hesitate.
He invoked what the founders wrote into the Constitution for exactly this moment – that Congress, not a president acting in the middle of the night, holds the power to take America to war.
Paul's position is constitutional bedrock: "My oath of office is to the Constitution, so with studied care, I must oppose another Presidential war."
The 1973 War Powers Resolution – passed after Vietnam to stop presidents from doing precisely this – requires congressional authorization within 60 days of committing forces.
Congress has not declared war since 1941.
It authorized the Gulf War, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
It has authorized nothing for Iran.
Paul and Rep. Thomas Massie introduced war powers resolutions in both chambers demanding the administration obtain congressional approval or stand down.
Senate Majority Leader John Thune waved it off, saying Trump's actions are "consistent with what previous administrations have done."
That is exactly the problem.
The establishment has made that argument for decades – and American soldiers keep dying for it.
The resolution is expected to fail as Republicans fall in line behind the president, with Paul the lone Republican vote in favor.
This Is What the Betrayal of America First Actually Looks Like
George W. Bush campaigned in 2000 against nation-building and foreign entanglements.
Within two years he had launched the two longest wars in American history.
Trump built his political identity on rejecting that catastrophe.
He called the Iraq War an impeachable offense.
JD Vance wrote in January 2023 that Trump's greatest foreign policy achievement was starting zero wars across four years in office.
Pete Hegseth said as recently as December 2024 that the Pentagon under Trump would not be distracted by democracy-building interventionism or undefined wars.
Now Hegseth is the one standing at the Pentagon podium telling America this war is not Iraq and is not endless.
They have heard that before.
Six Americans are dead in a conflict Trump himself acknowledged could require boots on the ground.
The neocons who spent two decades breaking the Republican Party and the Middle East are cheering.
Lindsey Graham is thrilled.
And Greene asked the question every America First conservative must now answer: what happened to the man who promised to expel the warmongers and put Americans first?
The men and women in flag-draped coffins are not the children of the people who made this decision.
They are the sons and daughters of the voters who trusted the promise.
