Even before President Donald Trump left office, many have speculated over the political futures of several members of the Trump family.
Some have seemed more likely than others, but we’ve yet to have any Trump signal a real interest in a run for office.
That is until now, as Lara Trump has finally revealed whether she is seriously exploring a U.S. Senate run.
Throughout President Trump’s 2016 and 2020 campaigns, as well as his four years in office, his family was very involved in his political endeavors.
Donald Jr., Eric, and Ivanka were prominent at campaign rallies, and as the Democrats and media never let anyone forget, both Ivanka, and her husband, Jared Kusher, worked in the President’s administration.
But one member of the Trump family who worked tirelessly to get the President’s America First message through the media noise and to the people, yet never really received the credit she deserved, was Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara.
Since Donald Trump entered the political arena, Lara has spearheaded the Trump-Pence Women’s Empowerment Tour, served as a surrogate on the campaign trail, worked as a fundraiser, and hosted and produced the Real News Update on Trump’s social media accounts to help counter the Left’s narratives.
With so much involvement in her father-in-law’s campaigns and Presidency, she has inevitably become one of the more likely Trumps to run for office one day.
And with her home state of North Carolina having an open U.S. Senate in 2022 thanks to the impending retirement of establishment Republican Richard Burr, the calls for Lara to run for the seat have reached a fever pitch.
But whether or not she was seriously interested in the seat has always been the question – until now.
On Tuesday night, Lara appeared on FOX News’ Hannity, and was asked point blank by host Sean Hannity if she was considering a run.
“I have a lot of friends in North Carolina, I mean a lot of friends,” Hannity said. “You were born and raised in North Carolina. Now, your name keeps coming up as a potential Senate candidate for this seat that is now open for 2022.”
“Are you considering possibly running?” Hannity asked.
Without missing a beat, Lara gave Hannity a resounding yes.
“Yeah, well I absolutely am,” she said. “Look, North Carolina, it’s not just my home state, it’s my home, it’s where all my family lives, it’s really the state that made me the woman I am today. And nothing would be a bigger honor for me than to represent the people of my home and of my home state, and it’s something I take really seriously, Sean.”
While she admitted that she is definitely considering running, Trump understandably went on to say that her entire family has been through a lot in recent years, and she needed time with her family to ultimately make her decision.
“I get asked about it a lot and I really I’ve really been so flattered by so many of these polls that have come out, but really we’ve been through a lot as a family over the past not just year, but really past five years,” Trump said. “So I think really we’re kind of taking a step back, really assessing things, taking it very seriously but, you know, taking a little time to spend with my kids, with my husband, and I will make a decision on it, but I certainly am considering it. And again nothing would be a greater honor for me than to represent the people of my home state.”
Even if Lara Trump hasn’t made her final decision on a U.S. Senate run, she is already being looked at as the clear front runner by some of the most prominent members of the Republican Party.
Just over two weeks ago, South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham said if Lara were to run, she would be a near lock for the Republican nomination thanks to outgoing Senator Richard Burr’s decision to side with Democrats in Donald Trump’s impeachment trial.
“North Carolina, the biggest winner I think of this whole impeachment trial is Lara Trump,” Graham said. “My dear friend Richard Burr just made Lara Trump almost the certain nominee for the Senate seat in North Carolina to replace him if she runs.”
If there is any southern, red state that deserves to have a true conservative representing them in the U.S. Senate, it’s North Carolina.
Since the late Senator Jesse Helms left office in 2003, the people of the state have been forced to suffer through establishment Republicans who constantly side with Democrats like Richard Burr and Thom Tillis, not to mention Democrat Kay Hagan.
So needless to say, Lara Trump would be a breath of fresh air for the people of North Carolina, and they are certainly enthusiastic over the prospect of a Trump campaign in their state.
In a December 2020 poll, Trump was the top choice of Republicans with 27% of the vote, while former Governor Pat McCrory, who has been critical of Donald Trump in the past and lost multiple statewide elections since 2008, including the 2016 race in which Trump won the state by a significant margin, came in second.
Quite frankly, Lara Trump is the clear favorite for the Republican nomination if she chooses to run, and considering her father-in-law’s enduring popularity in the state, would give Republicans the best chance to win in 2022.
She knows it, the Trump family knows it, and the Republican Party knows it.
The only thing that’s left to do is make the Lara Trump for U.S. Senate campaign a reality.
