Kid Rock Clowned Conan O’Brien After the Oscars Jab Backfired Spectacularly

Conan O'Brien spent Sunday night mocking Kid Rock to a room full of Hollywood elites.

Kid Rock spent Monday morning reminding Conan that 21 million people already chose his show over theirs.

Now Conan's looking for a punchline that actually lands – and Kid Rock's selling out arenas.

The Joke That Became Free Advertising

O'Brien opened the 98th Academy Awards with a jab at Turning Point USA's All-American Halftime Show, telling the crowd there was an "alternate Oscars" hosted by Kid Rock "at the Dave & Buster's down the street."

The room laughed.

Hollywood always laughs at its own jokes.

Kid Rock didn't bother getting mad.

"I love a good joke, even when I am the butt of it," he posted on X Monday morning. "Unfortunately this was not a very good one."

Then he dropped a link to Ticketmaster for his Freedom 250 tour – The Road to Nashville – launching in May to celebrate 250 years of American independence.

TPUSA spokesman Andrew Kolvet didn't miss the moment either.

"Literally had no idea the Oscars was even happening until someone sent me this just now," Kolvet posted. "Living rent free in these people's minds."

He wasn't wrong.

O'Brien had promised in pre-show interviews he wouldn't get political – that "when comedians get angry instead of clever, it doesn't land."

Then he opened night one with a shot at conservative counter-programming.

The Numbers Hollywood Doesn't Want You to See

Here's what made O'Brien's joke land with a thud outside the Dolby Theatre.

The All-American Halftime Show pulled 6.1 million peak concurrent viewers during Super Bowl LX in February – the most successful live digital alternative to a Super Bowl halftime show in history.

By Tuesday morning, the TPUSA YouTube video had crossed 21 million total views, matching the record set by Fox's 1992 In Living Color counter-programming – the last time anyone seriously dented the NFL at halftime.

Kolvet called it "a shot across the bow" and immediately announced a 2027 repeat.

O'Brien's Oscars joke just handed them another headline.

Hollywood's Real Problem Isn't Kid Rock

The Oscars crowd cheered when Javier Bardem opened with "No to war and free Palestine."

They applauded Jimmy Kimmel's North Korea-and-CBS joke – a dig at the new owner of the network that employs half the people in that room.

They gave a standing ovation to a documentary about Russian propaganda while the host made jokes about Trump's anatomy.

And after all of that, they can't figure out why half the country treats the Oscars like appointment television for people they don't like.

The TPUSA halftime show wasn't born in a vacuum.

It existed because millions of Americans watched the NFL book a performer who sang his entire set in Spanish – at the Super Bowl – and decided they were done asking politely for something different.

Hollywood sees that audience as a punchline.

Kid Rock sees it as a touring base.

The Freedom 250 tour kicks off in May.
