Christopher Wray spent four years hiding FBI files from Congress while calling it procedure.
Now the Hoffa family is watching the same playbook run on their father's murder – and they've had enough.
They just went straight to the one man in Washington who made his name destroying that playbook.
51 Years and the FBI Still Won't Name Names
Jimmy Hoffa vanished July 30, 1975 – lured to a parking lot outside the Machus Red Fox restaurant in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, and driven away into nothing.
He was last seen at 2:30 p.m. getting into a car.
His body has never been found.
Nobody has ever been charged.
His son James P. Hoffa – a five-term Teamsters president himself – has now written directly to FBI Director Kash Patel demanding the bureau do what it has refused to do for half a century.
Name names.
"It is important to us and the country that the truth about my father's disappearance be told and those involved in his disappearance, even if they are deceased, be exposed," Hoffa wrote in the letter obtained by Fox News.
The ask is reasonable and specific: keep the case open, transfer the unredacted files to the National Archives, and put the bureau's conclusions on the record.
"We want the case solved, we don't want tons of redacted paper sent to us," Hoffa told Fox News. "We seek closure, not millions of documents that continue the mystery."
The FBI Has the Killer's Name in a File and Won't Release It
The FBI has an informant 302 – a documented interview – in which a source told agents he was present when Jimmy Hoffa was murdered.
The informant named the killer.
Detroit mob capo Vito "Billy Jack" Giacalone is identified in that file as the man who pulled it off.
Detroit mob journalist Scott Burnstein, who runs the Gangster Report and has tracked this case for years, confirmed the 302 exists and reported that confidential informants told the FBI that Anthony "Tony Pal" Palazzolo was the "doer" in the Hoffa homicide – with Giacalone heading the hit team.
Both Giacalone and his brother Anthony "Tony Jack" Giacalone – the Detroit mob's street boss who helped lure Hoffa to the meeting – have since died.
Every man involved is dead.
There is no living defendant to protect, no open prosecution that demands secrecy, no safety risk to any informant still walking around.
There is just a family that has been waiting 51 years – and a file drawer the FBI won't open.
The bureau has released thousands of documents since the family called on Trump to act – but most are so heavily redacted they tell the Hoffas nothing they didn't already know.
Wray ran that same redaction game on Congressional Republicans for four straight years – hiding subpoenaed documents, stonewalling oversight committees, and calling it policy.
The Hoffa family has been on the receiving end of the same treatment for five decades.
Patel Has Everything He Needs to Close This
Kash Patel did not take the FBI director job to run Wray's playbook with a different name on the door.
He built his entire public profile exposing agencies that weaponized secrecy against the American people – and under his leadership, the FBI has already produced thousands of pages of documents that Wray refused to hand over to Congress.
That's who the Hoffa family is writing to – and that's exactly why this letter matters.
Independent investigator Roscoe Clark told Fox News he is certain Hoffa is buried at an undisclosed location in Michigan, with a site identified within three feet, and that forensic resolution could come fast if law enforcement would act.
The FBI dug up a New Jersey landfill in 2022 chasing a deathbed tip and came up empty.

They have chased ghost stories for 51 years while the one thing the family actually wants – the informant files naming the killers – stays locked in a drawer.
James Hoffa put it plainly: "It is time for the FBI to solve the case and to hold people accountable and name names, even if they are deceased, to solve this national mystery."
Releasing those files costs nothing, endangers no one, and gives a family something they've been denied since 1975.
If Kash Patel is serious about transparency – and every indication says he is – this is the easiest call he makes all year.
