Kai Trump’s Mom Had to Nurse Her Back to Health During Her First Week at College in Miami

Vanessa Trump stood in a Florida courthouse Tuesday fighting breast cancer and supporting her boyfriend's DUI plea – while her daughter was back in Jupiter sick with strep throat and calling home.

That daughter is Kai Trump, who spent her first week of college sobbing and not eating.

This is why Kai Trump’s mom had to nurse her back to health during her first week at college in Miami.

The Girl Who Never Cries Said She Could Not Stop

Kai Trump is 19 years old, a scratch golfer, and the kind of young woman who has been in the spotlight since she addressed a Republican National Convention crowd at 17.

She does not do weakness in public.

But in the days before her move to the University of Miami women's golf team, she sat in a car after a round of golf and let the camera catch it.

"I've been, like, literally sobbing," she told her YouTube followers. "It's just really sad that I have to say goodbye to everyone today. I'm not a very emotional person at all, so this is really weird for me to cry."

That is the kind of honesty you rarely see from a family in the public eye.

She was not performing grief for clicks.

She genuinely did not see it coming.

Her Best Friend Made Sure She Ate

The move-in itself was pure chaos – the good kind.

Her best friend Emma drove to Miami to help unpack and thought ahead in a way that matters.

She brought groceries.

"Emma got me some frozen foods because I haven't eaten in like three days," Kai said.

Three days.

That is not dramatic teenage hyperbole – that is what the first week of college does to a kid, even one who grew up in the most famous family in America.

Nearly 70 percent of college freshmen experience homesickness symptoms severe enough to disrupt sleep, appetite, and concentration.

Kai Trump – granddaughter of the president, social media star, Division I athlete – went through exactly what millions of American families send their kids through every August.

She just happened to film it.

Strep Throat Sent Her Straight Back to Mom

Then it got worse.

On Wednesday of her first week – 7 a.m. team meetings, new classes, new teammates – Kai got hit with strep throat.

She did not tough it out in the dorm.

"I came all the way back to Jupiter because I was so sick," she said. "I needed my mom to nurse me back to health."

Her mom is Vanessa Trump.

The same woman who stood beside Tiger Woods at his DUI plea hearing in a Florida courthouse just this Tuesday – dressed in navy, composed, steady – while fighting her own breast cancer diagnosis.

Vanessa announced the diagnosis in May, had surgery this summer, and is now preparing for a second stage of treatment.

The Media Calls Them Entitled While Vanessa Fights Cancer and Kai Cries in a Car

The Trump family gets called out of touch, entitled, shielded from consequences.

Look at what is actually happening.

Vanessa Trump is fighting breast cancer and showing up to courthouses to support her boyfriend.

Kai Trump is starting her freshman year knowing what her mom is carrying – and doing it without complaint.

She is crying in a car on camera, getting strep throat like every other 19-year-old, and going home when she needs her mother.

That is not a performance.

That is a family holding it together under conditions most Americans will never face.

Kai Trump posted her Miami golf team photos this week to more than 20,000 likes in an hour.

The American flag draped over her shoulders.

"Year 1," she wrote.
