MSNBC fired Joy Reid sixteen months ago and still nobody's watching.
Now she's back on a podcast, invoking Frederick Douglass to tell black America to skip July 4th – and she left out the one thing that destroys her entire case.
She just handed conservatives the sharpest answer to the Left's oldest attack on America's founding, and she doesn't even know it.
Reid Calls the Fourth a Slaveholder Holiday on America's 250th Birthday
Reid sat down with fellow MSNBC castoff Alex Wagner and declared that she and her black friends won't be celebrating America's 250th birthday.
"Nobody black I know is really excited about the 4th of July," Reid said. "It is… the celebration of slaveholders who freed themselves from having to pay taxes to the Crown for their slave empire."

Two weeks before the largest Independence Day celebration in the country's history – a full-year event Trump's White House has been building since Memorial Day 2025, spanning all 50 states, military ceremonies, and what the president says will be the largest fireworks show in history.

The timing isn't accidental.
Reid was quietly pushed out of MSNBC in February 2025 when network president Rebecca Kutler restructured programming amid declining ratings.
Reid told The Breakfast Club she found out the same way her fans did – from a news article.
No warning. No explanation. Just gone.
She launched a podcast in June 2025 that she says got over a million streams in week one.
She's still talking.
What She Left Out of the Douglass Argument Changes Everything
Reid invoked Frederick Douglass to make her case – his famous 1852 speech "What to the Slave is the Fourth of July?"
What she didn't tell you: Douglass gave that speech in a country where nearly four million black Americans were still legally owned as property.
Thirteen years before emancipation.
One hundred and thirteen years before the Voting Rights Act.
Douglass wasn't describing America's permanent character.
He was describing America's open wound – and demanding it be healed.
He spent the rest of his life fighting to make the Declaration of Independence mean what it said, not to abandon it.
He succeeded.

And the proof is forty million free black Americans who can say whatever they want about the Fourth of July, including telling Joy Reid she doesn't speak for them.
"I'm black. And I'm thrilled to celebrate our 250th anniversary on the 4th of July," wrote Dr. Dina McMillan on X. "Of course, the only black people who would be friends with Joy Reid are anti-white and self-pitying like she is."
"Who decided that Joy Reid gets to speak for black people?" wrote another user. "I must have missed the meeting."
Black Americans fought in every American war.
They built this country.
They bled for it and died for it and marched for it and prayed for it and won – and millions of them will be at cookouts on July Fourth with their neighbors celebrating exactly that.
It's representative of Joy Reid's world – a world that got smaller the moment MSNBC turned off her lights.
This Is Not Commentary It Is a Campaign
Reid isn't making a lonely historical observation.
She's following a coordinated playbook.
The Federalist reported this month that left-wing organizations including groups tied to Linda Sarsour are running a "counter-commemoration" campaign timed specifically to undermine the 250th anniversary celebrations.
Groups with names like "Get Free" and "All of U.S. 250" are calling Trump's celebration "whitewashed" and organizing nationwide protests for June 27 – the week before the Fourth.
The NAACP Legal Defense Fund's message for the 250th: "Reckon. Reimagine. Refound."

Not celebrate. Reckon.
Ali Velshi – another MSNBC castoff – says he feels "deep unease" about the 250th anniversary of what he called "our so-called democracy."
Reid. Velshi. Sarsour.
Same message. Same week. Same target.
And it reveals something the left cannot afford to say out loud: they need you angry, divided, and guilty – because the moment you feel proud to be American, you stop listening to them.
Frederick Douglass spent his life making Americans feel the full weight of that promise, so they would fight to keep it.
Joy Reid is using his words to make Americans feel like the promise was never real.
One of them loved this country enough to demand it become what it claimed to be.
The other lost her prime-time show and still hasn't figured out why.
