This disturbing trend accelerated under former President Donald Trump when Democrats cast aside their supposed commitment to free speech, the rule of law, and other principles to try to drop the hammer on him.
Censorship, cancel culture, and thuggish tactics are now fully embraced by the Left.
Comedian and podcaster Joe Rogan pointed out that the culture on the Left is shifting toward authoritarianism on his podcast The Joe Rogan Experience.
“The culture has shifted between right and left authoritarianism, and now people don’t recognize that . . . if you just stopped looking at it in terms of red and blue, look at the actions,” Rogan said. “Whether it’s war, suppression of free speech, pharmacological interventions that are mandatory. Whatever the f**k it is, that all used to be associated with the authoritarian right. And now, those things are being the Left.”
Democrats have flipped their long-held positions on war, free speech, and mandatory vaccinations to become the party of coercion.
“And I think it’s just an ideology thing and we get confused and we think, ‘we’re on the right side, we’re on the right side! And if our side that’s saying this, then for sure it’s the right thing to do!’ And no one is critically thinking about this,” Rogan continued.
People on the Left that have challenged this disturbing change like Rogan and independent journalist Glenn Greenwald have been attacked for pointing out the dramatic embrace of positions that their side opposed for years.
Rogan has labeled himself as left-leaning in the past and supported the Presidential campaigns of Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT).
The podcaster found himself in the crosshairs for censorship by the Left for his opposition to vaccine mandates and his opinions on the pandemic.
A group of left-wing medical professionals and academics demanded that streaming service Spotify censor him for spreading pandemic misinformation.
He was falsely accused of being a “menace to public health.”
Now Rogan’s political views are shifting after the disturbing drift towards authoritarianism by the Left.
Earlier this year, he said on a podcast that he would vote for Trump over President Joe Biden.
He said that Biden is gone mentally and his regime would be run by his “sideshow of diversity” cabinet.
