Now, Democrat Party insiders are hitting the panic button about a potential DeSantis Biden matchup in the 2024 Presidential election.
Two unnamed Democrat political operatives told CNN that they were “uneasy” about Biden’s chances to win against DeSantis or a younger Republican.
Another anonymous Democrat told CNN that Biden’s chances against DeSantis are “not great.”
Joe Biden will be nearly 82-years-old during the 2024 Presidential election while DeSantis would be 46 years old.
Democrats are worried that DeSantis would run circles around Biden on the campaign trail in 2024.
According to Democrats, the one issue that consistently comes up in focus groups about Biden is the President’s age.
Biden “has his work cut out for him in terms of having folks believe he can command this job for four more years,” said a person familiar with the focus group research.
Given Biden’s clear mental decline and age, a potential 2024 matchup with Ron DeSantis would be a clear contrast between the two candidates.
Even with Democrats’ success in the Midterm elections, some in the party are still calling for him to step aside.
Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) was the first Democrat in Congress to call for Biden not to run for re-election.
He said that Democrats need to “create pathways for new generations of leaders.”
“There’s a pragmatic element of this too. I believe the country will be in a place where they’ll be looking for a new generation as well,” said Phillips.
Joe Biden’s age is going to be a growing problem for Democrats going into the 2024 Presidential election.
