Democrats never saw it coming.

The Left got hit with a massive haymaker.

And Joe Biden left Democrats raging by waving the white flag of surrender in this major fight.

Joe Biden tweeted out that while he supported Washington, D.C. statehood he planned to sign a bipartisan resolution rolling back new Washington, D.C. laws that eliminated mandatory sentences and penalties for violent crimes including carjackings and robberies.

“I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule,” Biden added, “but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections — such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did — I’ll sign it.”

Several Senate Democrats agreed to support the resolution giving it enough votes to pass.

Murders in Washington, D.C. are up 37 percent and carjackings shot up 111 percent.

With Democrats facing a tough 2024 map defending several seats in red states the party is desperate to shed its defund the police, pro-crime image.

But Democrats in the House of Representatives were furious that Biden did not immediately signal he would sign the measure as that led to Democrats running in tough districts voting against the tough-on-crime resolution because they thought that is what Biden initially wanted.

“The White House f***** this up royally,” one House Democrat told The Hill.

“So a lot of us who are allies voted no in order to support what the White House wanted. And now we are being hung out to dry,” the House Democrat added. “F****** AMATEUR HOUR. HEADS SHOULD ROLL OVER AT THE WHITE HOUSE OVER THIS.”

Other Democrats were furious that Biden agreeing to a Republican measure to override the Democrat-run Washington, D.C. city council undercut the argument for one day making Washington, D.C. the 51st state.

“Defending those without power matters — past pledges of support for DC Statehood couldn’t ring more hollow,” Councilmember Charles Allen ranted. “It’s a reminder that until the nearly 700,000 residents of DC have full statehood & autonomy, we will be seen & treated as a colony, even by those who purport to support us.”

Texas Congressman Pete Aguilar agreed.

“It’s disappointing for me and anybody who believes in home rule, honestly. I’m a former mayor of a city of 70,000 and I wouldn’t want the federal government coming in and telling me what city ordinances to pass. […] So I think it’s disappointing in that context,” Aguilar told Punchbowl News.

Democrats want to make Washington, D.C. the 51st state to guarantee two more permanent Senate seats.

It’s hard for the party to make that argument when Joe Biden agrees the Democrats who currently govern Washington, D.C. are incapable of handling their own affairs and keeping their citizens safe from crime.
