Democrats are coming to Joe Biden asking for favors during his final days in office.
That is going to wreak havoc on the entire country.
And Joe Biden granted Gavin Newsom one scary wish that was bad news for everyone.
Biden administration will allow California and other states to ban gas-powered vehicles
President Joe Biden has been the salesman-in-chief for the electric vehicle industry since he took office.
His administration has tried to force the country to make the switch to electric.
Biden handed California and 11 other states a massive victory for electric vehicles on his way out the door.
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will grant a waiver to California that will allow the state to ban the sale of new gas-powered vehicles by 2035 by requiring zero tailpipe emissions.
California announced that plan in 2022 but needed the EPA’s green light to issue tougher emission standards than federal law.
The California Air Resources Board’s Advanced Clean Cars II rule will require that 22% of the vehicles sold in the state have zero emissions next year, ramping up to 100% by 2035.
Eleven states including New York, Colorado, and Massachusetts have adopted California’s Advanced Clean Cars II rule.
California is the largest market for automakers in the country.
The impact of this rule going into effect will be felt across the country.
Automakers will have to ramp up their production of electric vehicles to be able to sell to the dozen states.
Production of gasoline-powered vehicles will decrease which will drive up their price.
California is trying to use its status as the biggest market in the country in conjunction with its allied states to force everyone to go electric.
Donald Trump vows to fight California’s car ban
President-elect Donald Trump has vowed to end the electric car mandates from the Biden-Harris administration and California.
“California has imposed the most ridiculous car regulations anywhere in the world, with mandates to move to all electric cars,” Trump said, “I will terminate that.”
The EPA has let California set stricter emission standards than the nation for decades under the 1970 Clean Air Act.
California’s ability to set its own emission standards will likely be decided by the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court request rejected a petition to hear a case from red states and oil companies against California setting its own emission standards.
Transportation and Clean Air Policy for Environmental Defense Fund attorney Alice Henderson thought California had a rock-solid legal argument.
“EPA’s decision to grant California this preemption waiver is based on a rock-solid legal foundation and decades of precedent, and it ensures vital clean air protections for millions of people,” Henderson said.
Trump campaign national Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt slammed Biden for granting the waiver.
“Fresh off imposing his insane, job-killing electric vehicle mandate at the federal level, Crooked Joe Biden is preparing to slaughter the remnants of the U.S. auto-industry by approving California’s waiver request outlawing the sale of all gasoline-powered automobiles,” Leavitt said.
A legal battle is brewing over whether California can go rogue and set its own emission standards.
