A leaked internal memo from the FBI’s Richmond field office revealed that the bureau was going to investigate traditional Catholics who celebrate Latin mass as “potential terrorists.”
The FBI memo relied heavily on information from the far-left Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC), which uses politically biased research to smear conservatives as a threat.
Traditional Catholics, according to the memo, posed a threat of violence and were connected to “white supremacist ideology.”
After the memo was leaked and the backlash poured in, the FBI immediately backed off and retracted the memo.
The FBI was going to circumvent the First Amendment to drop the hammer on traditional Catholics opposed to Biden’s support for the abortion-on-demand industry.
Now, House Republicans led by Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) are demanding answers from the FBI about their latest political targeting scandal.
House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jordan and Rep. Mike Johnson (R-LA) wrote FBI Director Christopher Wray a letter asking him to hand over documents related to the memo.
“In the wake of the backlash against the FBI’s anti-Catholic document, the FBI withdrew the document and blamed the local level field office for its creation and dissemination,” the Republicans wrote. “However, there remain many questions about the genesis, review, and approval of this document, as well as the FBI’s commitment to upholding First Amendment protected activity.”
To do damage control, the FBI tried to pin the blame on the memo’s creation to the Richmond field office.
Jordan unloaded on the FBI for using the biased SPLC to make their decision to target traditional Catholics.
“The SPLC routine[ly] maligns several mainstream conservative and religious organizations as ‘hate’ groups, simply because the SPLC disagrees with their views,” the letter said. “The fact that the FBI would blindly accept and regurgitate the SPLC’s spin is highly concerning and undercuts the FBI’s assertion that it is unbiased and politically neutral.”
Using the SPLC as a source in the memo indicates that the FBI was looking for any flimsy justification to target traditional Catholics.
Jordan demanded that the FBI hand over every document related to the anti-Catholic memo along with any actions taken because of it.
He also asked for the names of the employees involved with drafting the memo and approving it for FBI use.
Catholic groups have called on congress to investigate the FBI and Biden regime over the bone-chilling move.
The FBI memo comes after the Justice Department ignored a growing wave of violence against Catholics opposed to abortion after Roe v. Wade was overturned by pro-abortion radicals.
The leaked memo revealed that Merrick Garland and the rogue FBI will cross any line to target the regime’s political enemies.
