Vance told Will Cain on The Will Cain Show that he had no idea what was happening at first.
He was on the dais with Trump – a few seats to his right – when commotion broke out in the back of the ballroom.
He heard loud noises he couldn't identify.
He saw people diving under tables.
Then a Secret Service agent leaned in: "Sir, we have to leave."
Vance, Trump, and Melania were rushed out of the Washington Hilton.
The suspected gunman – 31-year-old Cole Allen – had allegedly charged a Secret Service checkpoint armed with multiple weapons.

One Secret Service officer took a round to his ballistic vest and was transported to the hospital.
This wasn't a protester with a sign who wandered too close.
This was a man who showed up armed, charged the perimeter, and got close enough to put a bullet into a federal agent protecting the President of the United States.

Walz Tries to Take Credit for Catching His Own Fraud
Here's where the story gets uglier.
Vance is the administration's designated fraud czar – and when Will Cain asked about the Minnesota fraud investigation, he didn't let Tim Walz anywhere near a victory lap.
"This is like the arsonist trying to claim credit for the work of the fire department," Vance said, "because Tim Walz let this fraud happen under his watch, whether he was complicit in it directly himself or just turned a blind eye towards it."
Walz is now positioning himself as a crusader against fraud in Minneapolis.
The same Tim Walz who watched fraudsters steal $350 million in federal food aid meant for children – on his watch, in his state.

Federal investigators flagged the fraud. Walz's office didn't act.
The FBI and federal task forces did the work Minnesota's own governor refused to do.
Vance put it plainly: "We really did not get much help at all from the governor's office. Where we did actually get some help was from some state local law enforcement officers who we assigned to the federal task force because the state government wasn't doing anything."
