Jasmine Crockett spent last week defending the teenager who stabbed 17-year-old Austin Metcalf through the heart.
Then she showed up at the Essence Festival on the Fourth of July to tell America what it owes black women.
On America's 250th birthday, the outgoing congresswoman walked onto a stage and told the country exactly what it owes her.

Standing on the Essence Festival stage in New Orleans, Crockett looked into the camera and delivered her message to the country.
"When it comes to answering the question of what America owes black women, the answer is everything," she said.
Everything.
Not a debt of gratitude. Not recognition. Everything.

Black women, she told the crowd, built American democracy and were responsible for the inventions that shaped this country.
And today, right now in 2026, "democracy still hangs by a thread" – and there is a black woman to thank for it surviving.
The Founding Fathers who signed the Declaration of Independence were white men.
Every single one of them.
That is not a political statement – it is recorded history.
But on July 4th, Crockett stood on that stage and told you that you owe her people everything.
The Same Week She Said Austin Metcalf's Family Never Suffered Like Her
The timing is not a coincidence.
Three weeks earlier, Crockett went on her podcast after Karmelo Anthony was convicted of first-degree murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison for stabbing Austin Metcalf – a 17-year-old who died in his twin brother's arms at a Frisco, Texas track meet.
Crockett's response?
She held her thumb and forefinger an inch apart and told her audience the knife was too small to be a deadly weapon.
Then she said she herself would have done the same thing.
"Self-defense is, you know, I want to say eye for eye," she said.

She then told TMZ the Metcalf family had probably never spent a day living through the fear and agony that black mothers experience raising sons.
White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller called those comments "psychotic" on X.
He wasn't wrong.
Twelve jurors – including three racial minorities – deliberated for nine days and found Anthony guilty of intentional murder.
Teen witnesses at the track meet, some of them black, testified that Anthony started the confrontation and that Metcalf never drew a weapon.
Crockett, an attorney, dismissed all of it and declared the system broken because she disliked the verdict.
A $9 Million Congresswoman Leaving Office in Disgrace
Crockett lost her Texas Senate primary to Democrat James Talarico in March and is not seeking reelection to the House.
A woman worth an estimated $2 to $9 million – drawing a $174,000 congressional salary – stood at the Essence Festival and told the country it owes everything to people like her.
She defended a convicted murderer because he was black.
She dismissed a murdered teenager's grieving family because they were white.
Then she wrapped herself in the language of historical sacrifice and demanded gratitude.

This is the Democrat Party's identity politics playbook at its most naked. Not policy. Not governance.
Just a grievance loop that never closes – where America always owes more, the debt can never be paid, and anyone who questions it is a racist.
The Democrat Party made Crockett a star for saying exactly these kinds of things.
They put her on the stage. They amplified the clips.
They nodded along.
On America's 250th birthday, with soldiers buried at Arlington who died for this country regardless of color, Jasmine Crockett told you the country owes her everything.
She said it into a microphone. On camera. Without hesitation.
