And Jasmine Crockett just handed Republicans the easiest Senate win in decades.
Radical leftist firebrand enters Texas Senate race on final filing day
Democrats spent months plotting their strategy to flip a Texas Senate seat for the first time since 1994.
Moderates like Colin Allred tested the waters, hoping a centrist approach could finally break the Republican stranglehold on statewide office.
Then Jasmine Crockett torched all those plans by jumping into the race on the final day of candidate filing.
The Dallas congresswoman — notorious for viral confrontations attacking Republicans — just became the Democrat frontrunner.
Republicans couldn't believe their luck.
Senator John Cornyn, who faces a brutal three-way primary against Attorney General Ken Paxton and Congressman Wesley Hunt, immediately seized on Crockett's entry.
"I think she is unelectable in a general election in Texas," Cornyn told Fox News Digital. "Texas is still a conservative red state. She can't win, so I'm really happy she's decided to run."¹
The National Republican Senatorial Committee had been openly goading Crockett to enter for months, even releasing polls showing her leading the Democrat primary.
Now they got exactly what they wanted — the most toxic Democrat in Texas as the likely nominee.
"Jasmine Crockett leading her primary is the latest sign that the Democrat Party is being run by radical leftists," NRSC spokesperson Joanna Rodriguez declared.²
Cornyn exposes Democrats' socialist takeover
Cornyn didn't stop at celebrating Crockett's entry.
He argued her candidacy proves socialists have completed their hostile takeover of the Democrat Party, pointing to how Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer now answers to the Bernie Sanders and AOC wing rather than leading with any independence.
The party that once nominated candidates like Lloyd Bentsen now belongs to radical leftists who think illegal immigration isn't a crime and Republicans are fascists.
Moderate Colin Allred dropped out hours before Crockett filed her paperwork, recognizing he couldn't compete against her fundraising machine and media presence.
Crockett built her national profile through inflammatory attacks that energize the base but repel swing voters.
Trump regularly ridicules her on social media and at rallies, knowing his supporters find her absurd.
She compared the President to Adolf Hitler.⁴
She mocked Governor Greg Abbott as "Governor Hot Wheels" because he uses a wheelchair.⁵
She told the country "it is not a criminal violation to enter the country illegally."⁶
She called Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene "bleach blonde bad built butch body" during a committee hearing.⁷
Cornyn's campaign already cut a video highlighting Crockett's greatest hits — and there's plenty of material to work with.
"From open borders to socialist economics to unhinged attacks on anyone who disagrees, Jasmine Crockett isn't representing Texas," the video narrator states. "She's representing the far-left fringe."⁸
Republicans unify against Democrat self-destruction
Here's what makes Crockett's entry so devastating for Democrats.
Even Cornyn's Republican primary opponents — who've spent millions attacking each other — all agree she's the easiest Democrat to beat.
Attorney General Ken Paxton called her "Crazy Jasmine Crockett" and predicted she would "lose by double digits" in November.⁹
His campaign mocked Cornyn for previously calling Crockett his legislative "dance partner," suggesting the senator was too cozy with radicals.
Wesley Hunt's team welcomed Crockett to the race, arguing she proves Democrats are "stuck with radical candidates" who can't win statewide.¹⁰
The National Republican Campaign Committee is already weaponizing Crockett against vulnerable House Democrats like Vicente Gonzalez, tying them to her toxic brand.
"Radical Jasmine Crockett is electoral kryptonite and now vulnerable Texas Democrats are stuck sharing a ticket with her," NRSC spokesperson Reilly Richardson warned.¹¹
Even Democrat strategist James Carville — who helped Bill Clinton win the presidency — criticized Crockett's self-focused campaign style.
"She violates the first rule of politics, and that is, in politics, you always make it about the voters and never about yourself," Carville told his podcast audience. "If you listen to her talk, it's a lot more about herself than it is about the voters."¹²
When your own party's legendary strategist calls you out for narcissism, that's a problem.
Crockett pitched herself as the Democrat best positioned to "expand the electorate" by driving turnout among disengaged radical leftists.
But polling reveals the fatal flaw in that strategy.
A University of Houston survey showed 49 percent of Democrats would definitely not vote for her — the highest unfavorability rating of any candidate in the race.¹³
She'll likely win the March 3 Democrat primary against state Representative James Talarico based on name recognition and fundraising advantages.
Then Republicans get to spend eight months reminding Texas voters about every inflammatory statement, every radical position, and every unhinged attack.
Cornyn faces the toughest re-election fight of his career in the Republican primary, with polls showing him, Paxton, and Hunt in a statistical dead heat.
But all three candidates know one thing for certain.
Whoever emerges from the Republican runoff just got handed the general election on a silver platter.
Texas hasn't elected a Democrat to statewide office since 1994, and Trump expanded his margin to 14 points in 2024.
Crockett thinks she can overcome three decades of Democrat failures by running further left than any previous candidate.
Republicans are counting on exactly that kind of thinking.
