Government unions are one of the key pillars of the Democrat Party’s political coalition.

And James Comer picked one fight with government unions that Joe Biden is going to hate.
Biden administration paying unions taxpayer money to do union work
House Republicans are opening an investigation into one of the biggest scams in the federal government.
The Biden administration is paying government workers to conduct union business while on the clock for their government job, being paid taxpayer money in a practice known as official time.
Under current federal law, this absurd practice is completely legal.
Democrats grant it as a favor to their allies in Big Labor, who fund their political campaigns.
Government workers could be doing a union’s political work while they’re clocked in at their cushy federal jobs.
House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY) is trying to determine just how widespread this practice is throughout the federal government.
He sent a letter to 23 federal agencies requesting information about how much of their employee’s time is spent on union activities versus their actual job.
“Working for the federal government should not mean working primarily for a federal employee union,” Comer wrote.
The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) stopped publicly reporting data on official time after President Joe Biden entered the White House.
Government unions overwhelmingly backed Biden’s 2020 campaign and are gearing up again to help him this year.
“The American taxpayer expects government employees to do the jobs they are being paid to do, so it stands to reason that the Biden Administration — which has vocally praised the role of unions — should support transparency around the use of official time,” Comer continued. “Puzzlingly, the Biden Administration has instead gone out of its way to undermine transparency around official time use.”
OPM officials removed the public data official time, which had been publicly available since 1998 and said they had no plans to bring it back.
Some federal workers are only doing union worker
Comer’s letter asked federal agencies how many of their employees were exclusively doing union work while on the clock.
He noted that these federal employees could forget how to do the job they were hired to do.
“Official time abuse is particularly striking when employees dedicate all their working hours to union activity,” Comer explained. “Cases of 100 percent official time use create conditions for federal employees’ skills to atrophy as they forget how to, or otherwise lose the ability to, perform the jobs they were hired to perform.”
The most recent OPM report on official time under former President Donald Trump in 2019 found that government workers spent more than 2.5 million hours working on union activities while on the clock.
Taxpayer money is being wasted paying government employees to do the work of a partisan political organization.
Joe Biden vowed that he was going to be the “most pro-union President” in history.
And his administration doesn’t want the public to know how much work is being done for union allies on the taxpayer’s dime.
