Sixty-five people have been convicted of stealing $350 million meant to feed children in Minnesota.
The congresswoman who wrote the law that made it possible just blew off a subpoena vote.
And one Republican handed her the escape route.
What Omar's Law Actually Did to Those Kids
In March 2020, Ilhan Omar sponsored the MEALS Act.
It stripped the federal guardrails off school nutrition programs at the exact moment the money started flowing.
State Rep. Kristin Robbins, chair of the Minnesota House Fraud Prevention Committee, has been fighting to get answers ever since.
She put it plainly: Omar "passed the MEALS Act in March of 2020, and that took the guardrails off the federal school nutrition program, which created the conditions for fraud."
What followed was the largest pandemic-era fraud case in American history.
A nonprofit called Feeding Our Future, run by executive director Aimee Bock, funneled hundreds of millions of federal dollars meant to feed hungry kids into luxury hotels, overseas accounts, and shell companies.

The FBI raided the offices in January 2022.
Sixty-five defendants have since been convicted.
Bock herself was found guilty on all counts. One defendant drew a 28-year sentence – the largest in the case.
The money was supposed to feed children.
The Restaurant Omar Personally Promoted
This is where it gets worse.
Omar didn't just write the law.
She went on Somali-language television and highlighted Safari Restaurant in Minneapolis as a meal distribution site.
Safari Restaurant later became linked to the fraud.
Robbins' committee asked Omar to hand over every communication she had with the restaurant, with the Minnesota Department of Education, and with dozens of individuals now charged or convicted in the case – including Aimee Bock herself.

Omar's office never responded.
The deadline to comply with the document request was May 5, 2026.
She ghosted them.
The Vote That Saved Her
Republicans on the Fraud Prevention Committee tried to compel her testimony with a subpoena.
It needed six votes – a two-thirds majority.
It got five.
One Republican broke ranks and killed it.
Robbins posted on X after the vote: "It's the same story every time. Fraud is committed, information is suppressed, and the dysfunction continues."
She's been at this for years and she's not wrong.
Robbins Isn't Done
Here's what the Democrats are counting on: that the options run out before the investigation gets anywhere.

The Clintons dodged a congressional Epstein subpoena for six months – filing delays, excuses, creative legal arguments – before the contempt threat finally forced them to show up.
Omar's playing the same game, except she doesn't even have a contempt vote breathing down her neck yet.
Robbins told Fox News Digital she plans to reach out to Republican members of Congress about issuing a federal subpoena.
The logic is airtight. This was a federal program.
The fraud was committed against federal taxpayers.
The woman who wrote the legislation that opened the door to it is a sitting member of Congress who has refused every request for documents and testimony.
"They have so many investigations going on, I don't know where this falls on the priority list," Robbins told Fox News Digital.
That's the honest answer – and it's exactly what Omar is counting on.
Sixty-five convictions. A 28-year prison sentence. A Somali-language TV appearance promoting a fraud-linked restaurant.
Robbins is still at her desk, still taking whistleblower reports that keep coming in weekly, still looking for the next door that hasn't closed yet.
