Someone introduced a constitutional amendment to kick Ilhan Omar out of Congress.
Her response was three words.
Nancy Mace is making sure every American knows what those words were.
What Mace Is Actually Proposing
On May 20, Mace introduced H.J.Res.188 – a joint resolution that would extend the natural-born citizen requirement currently applied to the presidency and vice presidency to every member of Congress, every federal judge, every Senate-confirmed officer, ambassador, and public minister in the United States government.
The logic is simple.
If you require it for the person who commands the military and signs every bill into law, you should require it for the people who write those bills, confirm those judges, and represent America to foreign governments.
There are currently 26 foreign-born members of Congress.
Mace named three specifically: Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, born in Somalia, Shri Thanedar of Michigan, born in India, and Pramila Jayapal of Washington, born in India.

When Fox News asked Omar directly about the amendment, she said three words: "Good luck to her."
The Somalia Speech That Started This
The Heritage Foundation documented what happened in January 2024.
Omar addressed a crowd of Somalis at a Minneapolis hotel – in Somali – to weigh in on a foreign policy dispute between Somalia and the breakaway republic of Somaliland.
According to the translation, she told the crowd that no Somali would ever allow a foreign country to take an inch of Somali land or Somali waters.
She was not representing her Minnesota constituents. She was representing Somalia.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer filed an ethics complaint, calling her comments "a direct violation of her oath of office."
Omar has also been stripped from the House Foreign Affairs Committee – the panel that shapes America's relationships with countries including Somalia – over repeated anti-Semitic statements.
These are not accusations. These are documented facts on the congressional record.
And her response to a constitutional amendment designed to prevent exactly this kind of foreign-first governing?
"Good luck to her."
The Constitution Already Answered Omar's Argument
The natural-born citizen clause in Article II was not an accident.
The Founders understood that divided loyalty is incompatible with holding power over a sovereign nation.
They required it for the presidency because the person commanding America's military and foreign policy must have one allegiance – and it cannot be to Somalia.
Mace's amendment extends that standard to everyone writing the laws, confirming the judges, and sitting on the federal bench.
That is not a radical position.
It is the logical extension of a principle already in the Constitution.
The amendment needs two-thirds of both chambers and three-fourths of states to ratify.
That is a long road.
Jayapal called it "racist legislation." Thanedar skipped the constitutional question entirely and posted a personal joke about Mace on X.
Not one of them engaged with the substance.
That is the tell.
The Founders wrote the natural-born requirement into the Constitution because they saw this problem coming.
They just thought it would stop at the presidency.
Nancy Mace thinks they should have gone further.
She's right.
