House Republicans demand investigation into the CDC for being influenced by this far-left group

Many of the decisions made by politicians and bureaucrats throughout the COVID pandemic have been rather perplexing.

Some of those decisions have even appeared to many Americans to have been made because of political influence.

And now that a new report has indicated this far-left group influenced the CDC, House Republicans are demanding an investigation into the agency.

A couple of weeks ago, the New York Post released emails showing the second largest teachers union in the country, the American Federation of Teachers, successfully lobbied the Center for Disease Control and Prevention from recommending that schools could reopen in a safe manner earlier this year.

According to the Post, the emails, which were obtained by the watchdog group Americans for Public Trust, “show a flurry of activity between CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky, her top advisors and union officials – with Biden brass being looped in at the White House – in the days before the highly-anticipated Feb. 12 announcement on school-reopening guidelines.”

In a February 1 email in which the AFT was referred to as a CDC “thought partner,” AFT senior director for health issues Kelly Trautner thanked the CDC for their “rich discussions” and their “openness to suggestions” made by the AFT on the CDC’s guidelines for school reopenings.

Trautner also mentioned that the AFT had reviewed “a copy of the draft guidance document” and had provided feedback on ways to “strengthen the document.”

Once the CDC actually released their guidelines on February 12, two suggestions made by the AFT over the course of their discussions were included verbatim, seemingly proving that the AFT had successfully influenced the CDC.

Of course, considering the AFT donated roughly $20 million to Democrats during the 2020 election and CDC Director Rochelle Walensky claimed the guidance was “free from political meddling,” the report raised many questions about how the CDC was politically influenced throughout the COVID pandemic.

And now, top House Republicans on the Judiciary and Oversight Committees are calling for an investigation into the CDC.

According to FOX News, Reps. Jim Jordan (R-OH), James Comer (R-KY), and Virginia Foxx (R-NC) sent a letter to CDC Director Rochelle Walensky on Wednesday demanding answers as to how much influence the far-left American Federation of Teachers had over the agency’s guidance on reopening schools for in-person education.

The Republicans said that “the recently released emails reportedly show that the CDC has been taking its cues from teachers’ unions instead of following the science.”

“This interference also violates President Biden’s stated intention to ‘be led by health and medical experts’ and his promise to open ‘a majority of K-8 schools . . . in [the BidenAdministration’s first] 100 days,” the letter reads.

“The CDC has since acknowledged that it provided the AFT and other special interest unions, like the National Education Association, with nonpublic, draft copies of the guidance for their feedback,” the Republican’s letter continued. “These unions took advantage of their special access, with some AFT requests being incorporated into the CDC’s guidance nearly word for word. Instead of working towards re-opening schools safely, these emails reportedly show that the CDC was ‘commit[ed] to partnership’ with the AFT to ‘earn [their] confidence.'”

“Changes to the CDC guidance made at the request of the AFT appear to depart from the established science, which the CDC and Biden Administration claim to follow,” the letter stated. “Your political obedience to Democrat-aligned special interest groups ahead of our Nation’s children breaks both of these promises.”

The Republicans have given the CDC until May 26 to provide members of Congress with all documents and communications the agency exchanged with teachers unions from January 20 to the present, and to reveal the extent of influence teachers unions had on the CDC.

Interestingly, on Thursday, AFT president Randi Weingarten called for public schools to fully reopen for in-person learning in the fall, claiming “There is no doubt: Schools must be open.”

With Republicans now investigating the CDC, the American people will soon be able to start the process of learning exactly how much influence far-left groups like the American Federation of Teachers had on the CDC throughout the past year.

And while it will be important to get to the bottom of this specific case, there is no doubt there is more influence from special interest groups to uncover not just at the CDC, but amongst other agencies and politicians.

Whether it be from political or other special interest groups, like corporations, the American people have a right to know who was actually pulling the strings behind the scenes since the start of COVID.

It is only inevitable that more corruption such as this exists.

So it’s now only a matter of whether the corruption comes to light and, most importantly, whether elected officials are willing to actually find answers.
