Chuck Schumer spent many sleepless nights waiting on Kamala Harris to announce her choice for a running mate.

He knew Harris’ selection could determine the balance of power in the U.S. Senate.

And here’s why Chuck Schumer let out a sigh of relief when Kamala Harris selected Tim Walz as a running mate.

With less than 90 days left until the November 5 election, most Americans are focused on the race between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump.

But control of Congress is also up for grabs this fall.

Republicans are defending a slim majority in the House, and Democrats are defending a razor-thin majority in the Senate.

Chuck Schumer is facing a tough landscape this election, as Democrats are defending seats in states that either twice voted for Donald Trump – Montana and Ohio – or are Presidential battlegrounds.

Nine of the ten most competitive seats that are most likely to flip are held by Democrats.

If Republicans flip West Virginia due to Joe Manchin’s retirement, the GOP will only need to pick up one more seat to control the Upper Chamber next year.

“Democrats faced a challenging path to holding their Senate majority even before President Joe Biden stepped aside from the 2024 campaign – and they likely still do with Vice President Kamala Harris as their presumptive nominee,” CNN reported.

That’s why Schumer let out a sigh of relief when Kamala Harris selected Tim Walz to join her on the Presidential ticket.

Harris could have thrown the Senate into chaos by selecting a U.S. Senator as her running mate instead of Governor Walz.

If Harris would have picked someone like Senator Mark Kelly (D-AZ), then it would have triggered a Special Election and potentially allowed Republicans to take the seat.

As Axios reported, selecting Walz means “Schumer’s Senate Democratic caucus will remain intact, killing fears of a complicated special election in a battleground state in the coming years.”

But that’s not the only reason Schumer was relieved by Harris’ choice.

Walz could also help some of the Democrat Senate candidates running in the Midwest.

“Walz on the ticket could help Sens. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and Tammy Baldwin (D-Wisc.), who are up for re-election this year in key Midwestern states,” Axios reported.

Of course, Walz could also be the downfall of Democrats, given his radical left-wing record.

As Governor, Walz has supported everything from abortion-on-demand up until birth to gun control to welfare for illegal aliens to sex changes for children to mask and vaccine mandates.

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz are by far the most left-wing ticket ever put forth by Democrats in a Presidential election.
