Harvard let Jewish students get harassed on campus after October 7 while administrators looked the other way.
Now the same school handed its commencement microphone to a Hollywood comedian to trash the president fighting for those students.
Conan O'Brien delivered exactly what Harvard wanted.
The Billion-Dollar Backdrop O'Brien Ignored
Trump's Justice Department sued Harvard in March 2026 for what it called "deliberate indifference" to the harassment of Jewish and Israeli students.
The 44-page complaint alleges Harvard tolerated antisemitic mobs – students, faculty, and outside agitators – targeting Jewish classmates while administrators selectively enforced campus rules to protect the harassers.
Attorney General Pam Bondi said it plainly: "Since October 7, 2023, too many of our educational institutions have allowed antisemitism to flourish on campus – Harvard included."
The administration isn't just talking.
Trump yanked $2.2 billion in federal grants from Harvard and is seeking to recover more than $2.6 billion in taxpayer money the school received from Health and Human Services alone.
What O'Brien Actually Did Up There
O'Brien told the crowd his personal grievances against Harvard – a joke about his dorm bed and his "less-than-spectacular undergraduate sex life" – would have "more merit" than Trump's lawsuit.

He got laughs.
What he didn't mention was why Trump sued.
He didn't mention Jewish students who described being cornered, harassed, and afraid to show up on campus.
He didn't mention the federal task force finding that Harvard was a "willful participant" in antisemitic harassment.
He joked about "Justice Department spies" in the audience.
Then he defended Harvard's international student program – the same program Trump has moved to restrict on national security grounds – with a punchline about "Calvinist reggae" and "Lutheran lambada."
The White House wasn't impressed.
"Nobody in their right mind cares what woke celebrities in Hollywood say or think," White House spokesperson Davis Ingle said.
Harvard's Pattern Is the Story
This wasn't a one-time booking gone sideways.
Harvard has invited left-leaning political speakers to its commencement for years – former Attorney General Merrick Garland, former Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick, the late Georgia Rep. John Lewis.

Garland's 2022 address spent significant time warning graduates about threats to democracy following January 6.
The 2025 speaker, physician Abraham Verghese, attacked what he called a "cascade of draconian government measures" from the Trump administration.
Harvard's own president acknowledged that conservative viewpoints feel unwelcome on campus – calling it a "problem" that "needs to be solved."
Then he handed the microphone to Conan O'Brien.
What This Actually Costs Taxpayers
Harvard's endowment sits at $53 billion.
The school charges students over $90,000 a year in tuition and fees.
Yet it relies on more than $2.6 billion in federal taxpayer money to run its research programs.
That's the deal Trump is challenging.
His argument is simple: you don't get to take billions from American taxpayers while letting Jewish students get harassed on your campus.
Harvard's answer is to fight that in court, book a comedian to mock the whole thing at graduation, and collect the applause.
Columbia University understood the assignment – it wrote a $220 million check and got its federal funding restored.
Harvard decided it would rather perform resistance for the graduating class.
The students harassed on campus after October 7 didn't get a punchline.
They didn't get mentioned at all.
