Democrats spent three weeks telling America they were coming for Trump the moment they won the House.
Then Shannon Bream asked Hakeem Jeffries one question on Fox News Sunday – and he said "of course not."
The man who would be Speaker just threw his own party's base under the bus on national television.
The Setup Democrats Are Running on America
Here is what Jeffries wants you to believe.
Ro Khanna went on MSNBC and told millions of viewers Democrats "will impeach" Trump the second they take back the House.
Rep. Delia Ramirez told Axios Democrats need to start "shadow hearings" now so they are ready to act on Day 1.
Rep. Yassamin Ansari said the push for impeachment "is going to be overwhelming."
James Carville – the Democrats' most honest attack dog – promised his party would go after Trump's children too.
That is the real Democrat platform heading into the 2026 midterms.

Then Jeffries sits down on national television, and suddenly it is all about bringing down the cost of groceries.
"Of course not," he said when asked if impeachment would be his top priority.
He pivoted immediately to a word salad about good jobs, good housing, good healthcare, good education, and good retirement.
He used the word "good" five times in thirty seconds.
That is what a politician sounds like when he is lying to two different audiences at once.
The DC Two-Step Has a Name
This is the oldest play in Washington.
Send the radicals out to fire up the base with promises of revenge.
Send the leader out to calm down the swing voters with promises of normalcy.
Hope nobody notices the contradiction.
House Democrat Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar – Jeffries' own deputy – actually told reporters "literally no Democrats are talking about" impeachment.
He said that while Khanna was promising it on cable television.
This is not a messaging problem.
It is a deliberate strategy.
Republicans ran this same play in 1998 – stoking their base with Clinton impeachment fever while their leaders told moderates they wanted to focus on governance.

Newt Gingrich promised Republicans would pick up up to 40 House seats.
They lost five.
Gingrich resigned within the week.
The party that turns impeachment into a campaign promise does not get rewarded at the ballot box.
Democrats know this – and they are running the play anyway.
What Jeffries Is Actually Telling You
Notice what Jeffries did not say.
He did not say impeachment was wrong.
He did not say Trump had done nothing impeachable.
A politician who wanted to kill impeachment would have said both of those things.
Instead he said it was not his "top priority" – which is Washington for "it is on the list, just not first."
The tell is his own caucus.
Rep. Madeleine Dean – the Pennsylvania Democrat who stood at the Senate podium and prosecuted Trump at his second impeachment trial – has already laid out the timeline publicly.
She told reporters Democrats should wait until they have the majority, then act.
That is not opposition to impeachment.
That is a rollout plan.
Jeffries knows the Senate math as well as anyone – a conviction requires two-thirds, and Republicans will not deliver that.

So the play is to impeach Trump, fail in the Senate, and spend the rest of his term running on the grievance.
That is the governance plan Democrats are selling behind the scenes while Jeffries talks about grocery bills on Fox News.
The Voters Who Matter Already Know This
Trump warned House Republicans about this in January.
He told them flat-out: if you do not win the midterms, they will impeach him.
He was not speculating — he was reading the Democrats' own playbook back to them.
Khanna confirmed it on MSNBC weeks later – not in a slip, not in a moment of frustration, but deliberately, proudly, as a campaign promise.
This would be the third time Democrats have impeached Trump.

Both times, Trump came out of it stronger than he went in.
Democrats know this history as well as Republicans do.
That tells you everything you need to know about how Democrats plan to govern if they win in November.
They will not lead with impeachment on Day 1.
They will build the case quietly – just like they told Axios they would – and pull the trigger once the cameras stop paying attention to what Hakeem Jeffries said on a Sunday morning in April.
