There is no elected official who supports the Left’s woke ideology more than California Governor Gavin Newsom.
Newsom frequently appears for interviews to preach the woke social justice message to the American people.
But Governor Gavin Newsom just got a dose of his own woke medicine in California.
Gavin Newsom is a cheerleader for the Left’s woke ideology.
Despite facing a crisis in his own state on multiple fronts – homelessness, crime, drugs – Newsom spent the past two years viciously attacking Ron DeSantis for his bold stance against the woke Left.
Newsom spent hundreds of thousands of dollars to try and help Democrat Charlie Crist defeat DeSantis in the Midterms and even traveled to Florida to criticize the Governor for removing Critical Race Theory from the curriculum.
On Sunday, Newsom appeared on NBC’s Meet the Press for an interview with host Chuck Todd.
The main topic of discussion was Senator Dianne Feinstein’s Senate seat.
Feinstein is 89 years old and set to retire in 2024.
Several Republicans are vying for her seat in the Democrat Primary set to take place in a couple of months.
However, many expect Feinstein to step down before the end of her term due to health issues.
In that case, Gavin Newsom would appoint an interim Senator to hold the position until the 2024 election.
“I don’t want to get involved in the primary,” Newsom told host Chuck Todd in reference to not appointing any of the current contenders.
“It would be completely unfair to the Democrats that have worked their tail off,” he said. “That primary is just a matter of months away,” he continued, before adding that “I don’t want to tip the balance of that.”
Of course, Newsom took the opportunity to pander to the identity politics of the woke Left by restating his promise to appoint a black woman should Feinstein step down early.
“We hope we never have to make this decision, but I abide by what I’ve said very publicly on a consistent basis,” Newsom declared. “Yes!”
But Newsom’s attempt to pander to the woke Left backfired.
And the Governor got a dose of his own woke medicine.
Democrat Congresswoman Barbara Lee, who is running for Feinstein’s seat, blasted Newsom and said she was “troubled” by his remarks.
“I am troubled by the Governor’s remarks,” Lee wrote on X. “The idea that a Black woman should be appointed only as a caretaker to simply check a box is insulting to countless Black women across this country who have carried the Democratic Party to victory election after election.”

Since the Left views everything through the prism of race, she then pointed out that “there are currently no Black women serving in the Senate,” adding that “since 1789, there have only been two Black woman Senators, who have served a total of 10 years.”
Lee then put Newsom on notice that “if the Governor intends to keep his promise and appoint a Black woman to the Senate, the people of California deserve the best possible person for that job.”
“Not a token appointment,” she added.

Gavin Newsom spent the past few years lecturing Americans about bowing to the Left’s woke ideology.
And now Newsom is on the receiving end of his own woke madness.
