Gavin Newsom used his official government press office to call Joe Rogan a chicken – while California burns through a $68 billion deficit.
Rogan responded – and five words just ended Newsom's 2028 presidential campaign before it started.
What Rogan said is so specific and so true that the governor has no answer for it.
The Governor Who Won't Govern
Newsom's official press account posted in all-caps on X last week.
"Joe 'Little Guy' Rogan is too chicken to have me on his failing podcast because he knows I'd crush him," the post read.
He followed up two days later with an AI-generated image mocking Rogan – complete with Rogan clutching a cartoon chicken.

This is the Governor of California.
The state is running a $68 billion budget deficit.
Homeless encampments line the streets of San Francisco and Los Angeles.
California has one of the highest poverty rates in the nation when cost of living is factored in.
And Gavin Newsom is spending his time posting all-caps taunts at a podcaster from his official government account.
There's a word for a politician who governs like this.
It isn't president.
Rogan's Five Words Were Surgical
Rogan didn't call Newsom corrupt.
He didn't attack his record.
He said something far more damaging.
He called Newsom "a cardboard cutout of a person."
Five words that no opposition researcher, no debate opponent, and no attack ad has ever managed to land on Gavin Newsom – because they're not political.
They're true.
Rogan went further.
"Nobody believes that guy is a real person," he said on his podcast. "With Newsom you've got like this construct, this cardboard cutout of a person."
Rogan has spent years building credibility with exactly the voters Newsom needs for 2028 – young men, independents, working-class voters who walked away from the Democrat Party.

His podcast is the most-listened-to in the world, and when Donald Trump sat down for a three-hour conversation in October 2024, the interview became the most-viewed political podcast in internet history, according to Fox News.
Newsom understands this, which is why he's been begging for an invitation.

Newsom is term-limited as governor.
His entire political future depends on becoming the Democratic Party's standard-bearer for 2028.
That means winning back the voters who abandoned Democrats in 2024 – specifically the young men who chose Trump by 14 points.

And Rogan just told them exactly what he thinks of Gavin Newsom.

Democrats lost in 2024 because voters felt talked down to and managed.
Newsom's response to being rejected by Rogan was to post cartoon chickens from his government press account.
He didn't ask why Rogan's audience doesn't trust him.
He didn't reflect on what governing California into a $68 billion hole says about his fitness for higher office.
He did what cardboard cutouts do.
He performed.
A politician who mocks the messenger instead of hearing the message isn't going to win back anyone who left.
He's just auditioning – for an audience that already made up its mind.
