FEMA has come under heavy fire for its disastrous response to this fall’s hurricanes.
The problems at the embattled agency run deeper than anyone realized.
And FEMA officials are terrified of Marjorie Taylor Greene blowing the lid off this scandal.
House committee investigates widespread bias against Trump supporters
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been heavily criticized for its slow response to Hurricanes Helene and Milton.
Helene ravaged Republican states in the southeast but storm victims complained that FEMA was nowhere to be found afterward.
A whistleblower could have stumbled upon the reason that FEMA dragged its feet in these areas.
FEMA administrator Marn’i Washington gave orders in person and on the Microsoft Teams messaging app for disaster relief workers to skip the homes with signs or flags that showed support for President-elect Donald Trump in Lake Placid, Florida, after Hurricane Milton.
The agency fired Washington after the story broke and claimed this was an isolated incident by a rogue employee.
But Washington claimed these orders came from the top and that FEMA used the same policy in Western North Carolina.
The House Homeland Security Committee opened an investigation into “systemic bias” against Trump supporters by FEMA.
Members of the committee are seeking written testimony from Washington’s supervisor and two other FEMA officials who worked on disaster relief in Florida after Hurricane Milton.
“The Committee on Homeland Security is investigating the Federal Emergency Management Agency’s potential discrimination against disaster victims based on political affiliation,” Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green (R-TN) wrote FEMA Administrator Deanne Criswell. “Ms. Washington’s statement contradicts FEMA’s press release and points to a possibly systemic bias within FEMA against individuals that support President-elect Donald J. Trump.”
Green told Criswell that he was deeply concerned that homes and even areas of mostly Republican households might not be receiving the help they need after a natural disaster.
“If [Washington] is right and there is a broader ‘policy’ of discriminatory practices in the agency’s recovery efforts, this Committee will demand accountability from the highest levels,” Green told Fox News.
FEMA head dodges question about discrimination against Trump supporters
Representative Majorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), a member of the House Oversight Committee, vowed that Criswell will “answer for her failures and blatant political bias against Trump supporters.”
Criswell testified before the House Oversight Committee about her agency’s discrimination against Trump supporters.
Representative Jim Jordan (R-OH) asked her if Washington was “lying” about discrimination against Trump supporters being a common practice in FEMA.
Criswell dodged the question and claimed the incident was part of an internal investigation.
Washington appeared on NewsNation’s Dan Abrams Live where she claimed that she was being set up as the scapegoat in the scandal.
“So firstly, I’m being framed,” Washington said. “I was simply following orders. I execute orders. I don’t create a policy. I do not reinvent the wheel. My record shows that.”
She claimed that FEMA trained workers to skip Trump homes to avoid potential conflicts.
The evidence suggests that the Biden-Harris administration weaponized FEMA against Trump supporters ahead of the election.
