Every Democrat in Congress Just Voted to Kill a Women’s History Museum Over One Word

House Democrats just killed a women's history museum because the bill used the word "biological."

Not because of funding cuts or a bad location.  

But because of one word – and every single Democrat walked.

The Party That Claims to Champion Women Just Buried Their Own Museum

The Smithsonian American Women's History Museum has been in the works since 2020.

Six years. Bipartisan support. More than 200 co-sponsors.

Unanimous celebration from the Democratic Women's Caucus every International Women's Day.

Then Republicans amended the bill to define the museum's mission as honoring "the history, achievements and lived experiences of biological women in the United States" – and specified the museum "may not depict any biological male as female."

Every Democrat in the House voted no.

Speaker Mike Johnson said the quiet part out loud at a Wednesday press conference. "The addition of the word biological made them all run for the hills. If that's controversial in the Democratic Party, we're in serious trouble."

He's right.

Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, the bill's Republican sponsor from New York, watched her legislation – the one she'd shepherded through years of negotiation – die because her colleagues refused to put women in a women's museum.

"A women's history museum is supposed to be dedicated to women, period," Malliotakis told Fox News. "The fact that they're going to pull their support after overwhelmingly co-sponsoring this bill because the word biological was inserted, to me, is ludicrous."

She has a point they cannot answer.

This Isn't a Surprise and It Isn't an Accident

Democrats released their own 2024 election autopsy report this same week.

The DNC's consultants identified Trump's transgender attack ad – the one ending with "Kamala is for they/them, President Trump is for you" – as "very effective."

Their own pollsters concluded Harris had no answer because she "would not change her position."

Then House Democrats voted unanimously to kill a women's museum over the word "biological."

This is not a party that learned anything.

This is a party that read the autopsy report and decided to do it again anyway.

The Democratic Women's Caucus, led by Chairwoman Teresa Leger Fernandez of New Mexico, called the "biological women" language a "poison pill."

She argued that a museum "should not be controlled by one man" – pointing to a provision allowing Trump to select an alternative site if the current location proves unworkable.

That's the escape hatch. Malliotakis dismissed it immediately, telling Fox News that Democrats owe their voters a straight answer about why a women's history museum shouldn't be limited to women.

The Democrats who voted no will now go home to their districts and try to explain exactly that.

Every Republican Ad Buyer in America Just Got a Gift

Hakeem Jeffries has not commented publicly on the vote.

That silence is the tell.

Democrats running in competitive districts in 2026 just cast a vote that fits in a 30-second ad with zero editing required.

The script writes itself: "Congressman [Name] voted against building a museum for women – because Republicans insisted the museum be for women."

Republicans will spend the next six months turning this vote into the defining image of a party that cannot say the word "woman" without a qualifier.

Six years of bipartisan work. More than 200 co-sponsors.

A museum to honor the achievements of American women. Dead on the House floor because Democrats will not put the word "biological" next to the word "women."

Their own autopsy told them transgender politics cost them the White House.

They went right back and did it again – and handed Republicans the attack ad to prove it.
