And Emma Heming Willis broke down in tears after she revealed one heartbreaking detail about Bruce Willis.

Bruce Willis built a legendary career playing tough guys who always saved the day in movies like Die Hard and The Sixth Sense.
But the 70-year-old actor is now fighting the toughest battle of his life against frontotemporal dementia.
His wife Emma Heming Willis sat down with Diane Sawyer for a heartbreaking interview that aired on Good Morning America on Tuesday morning.
Emma, 47, opened up about the rare moments when she still sees flashes of the man she married.
"It’s his laugh, right? He has such a hearty laugh," Emma told Sawyer. "And sometimes you’ll see that twinkle in his eye, or that smirk. I just get transported."
But those precious moments don’t last long.
"And it’s just hard to see, because as quickly as those moments appear, then it goes," she said through tears, showing how fast Bruce slips away.
The Willis family first revealed Bruce’s health struggles in March 2022 when they announced he had been diagnosed with aphasia, a condition that impacts communication abilities.
At that time, they also announced Bruce was stepping away from acting.
In February 2023, Emma provided an update that Bruce’s condition had progressed to frontotemporal dementia.
The warning signs that something was wrong
Emma recalled noticing subtle changes in her husband before doctors could put a name to what was happening.
"For someone who was very talkative and very engaged, he was just a little more quiet," Emma explained to Sawyer.
Family gatherings became particularly difficult for Bruce.
"And when the family would get together, he would kind of just melt a little bit," she said.
Emma noticed that Bruce seemed withdrawn in a way that was completely out of character.
"He felt a little removed, very cold. Not like Bruce, who is very warm and affectionate. To go in the complete opposite of that was alarming and scary," she said.
Emma doesn’t believe Bruce ever fully understood what was happening to his health.
"I don’t think he ever connected the dots," she said.
A diagnosis she couldn’t even pronounce
When doctors finally gave the family answers, Emma felt overwhelmed by the medical terminology.
"I just remember hearing it and just not hearing anything else. It was like I was free-falling," she told Sawyer about receiving "a diagnosis I couldn’t pronounce."
The feeling of panic was immediate.
"I felt panicked not fully understanding what was happening to Bruce," she said.
Emma explained that frontotemporal dementia is often misunderstood and misdiagnosed.
"FTD can be diagnosed as bipolar, midlife crisis, depression," Emma said. "A lot of doctors don’t know about" the condition at all.
The lack of awareness about the disease made getting proper care even more challenging for the family.
Bruce and Emma share two daughters together – Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11.
Finding gratitude in the midst of heartbreak
Despite the devastating diagnosis and watching her husband’s condition deteriorate, Emma tries to focus on what she still has.
"I’m grateful," she told Sawyer. "I’m grateful that my husband is still very much here."
Emma has written a book called The Unexpected Journey that will be available on September 9.
The book chronicles her family’s experience dealing with Bruce’s illness.
