Tesla CEO Elon Musk continues to confound the Left.
But Musk is proving he is serious.
And Elon Musk made one big announcement that will have Democrats losing their minds.
When Elon Musk announced a $44 billion deal to purchase Twitter, the immediate question was if he was serious and would follow through on the deal.
Musk decided to purchase Twitter after the platform censored the Babylon Bee, a popular Christian satire site, after it posted an article awarding a biological male in the Biden administration pretending to be a woman with their “man of the year” award.
When Musk announced his intention to purchase the site, he made it clear that he intended to roll back the platform’s censorship regime and allow for more free speech online.
That sent Democrats into a frenzy once they realized the Left would lose its monopoly on the ability to decide what speech is allowed online.
Democrats used online censorship to help rig the 2020 Presidential election when Facebook and Twitter suppressed the New York Post’s truthful and accurate reporting about the contents of Hunter Biden’s laptop.
Leftists hoped a similar effort to control the flow of information to the voters under the guise of slowing the spread of online misinformation would similarly rig the 2022 and 2024 elections in their favor.
But Musk has other plans.
In a virtual town hall meeting with Twitter employees, Musk described free speech as an essential value that the platform would promote.
“I think it’s essential to have free speech and for people to be able to communicate freely,” Musk told Twitter employees.
Musk told Twitter employees that under his leadership, the platform would allow false, extreme, and ugly speech that was lawful.
However, he said that it would not amplify the speech or allow it spread easily, citing the example of someone shouting the lie in the middle of Times Square that the Holocaust wasn’t real.
“There’s freedom of speech and freedom of reach,” Musk added. “Anyone could just go into the middle of Times Square right now and say anything they want. They can just walk into the middle of Times Square and deny the Holocaust … but that doesn’t mean that needs to be promoted to millions of people. So I think people should be allowed to say pretty outrageous things that are in the bounds of the law but that don’t get amplified and don’t get a ton of reach.”
Musk took this opportunity to prove to Twitter employees, the media, and Wall Street that he was serious about purchasing Twitter.
And he doubled down on his promise to promote free speech on Twitter.
