Democrats weaponized the justice system to go after Donald Trump.
Now, Democrats just scored another big win.
And Donald Trump’s reaction to a guilty verdict had all hell breaking loose.
A jury in Washington, D.C. convicted former Trump Advisor Peter Navarro on contempt of Congress charges after Navarro refused to testify to the January 6 Committee following Donald Trump invoking executive privilege.
Former President Donald Trump exploded on social media following what he says is a politically-motivated prosecution.
Democrat judges later ruled that Trump could not invoke executive privilege to keep Navarro from testifying as Trump was no longer the President when he did so.
Navarro now faces up to two years in federal prison on a statute the Justice Department hasn’t used to prosecute anyone in decades.
During the Obama administration, Republicans recommended contempt of Congress charges against Attorney General Eric Holder after Holder defied a subpoena in the investigation into the Operation Fast and Furious.
That case involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) allowing criminals to purchase guns they knew would end up in the hands of gangs in Mexico.
That scandal ultimately led to the death of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry who was killed with one of these guns.
Despite Attorney General Holder’s subpoena refusal, the Obama Justice Department declined to press charges.
But, of course, since Trump’s attorney is not a Democrat, he’s getting far different treatment.
In a series of posts on social media Trump blasted the “fascist monsters” that arrested, tried and convicted Navarro.
Trump also once again, slammed former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) for failing to secure the Capitol on January 6.
Finally, Trump blasted the Committee for destroying documents and records, so the new GOP majority couldn’t investigate its witch hunt against former President Trump and his supporters.
“I can’t believe that these Fascist Monsters have so viciously gone after the great Peter Navarro for defying the totally partisan January 6th Unselect Committee of political Hacks and Thugs, who refused to go after Crazy Nancy Pelosi, and the reasons she and the Mayor of D.C. REJECTED 10,000 soldiers, which would have easily stopped any future security problem,” Trump wrote. “His testimony wouldn’t have mattered, anyway, because the ‘Committee’ QUICKLY and ILLEGALLY DELETED & DESTROYED ALL EVIDENCE & FINDINGS!”
“There was MUCH, MUCH, MUCH, evidence and findings that the Unselect Committee DID NOT WANT SEEN. This deleted and destroyed evidence is a big part of my defense, and the defense of many others. They should be the ones who are prosecuted, not Peter Navarro who, by the way, was single greatest trade negotiator against China, who paid the U.S. hundreds of billions of dollars during the Trump Administration (never paid ten cents before us!). Only China is celebrating the Navarro conviction!” Trump added.
Trump’s post raises the prospect that if Trump were to win in 2024, he will pardon Navarro as well as countless other Trump supporters swept up into the Biden administration manhunt.
