More than 415 college sports programs have been eliminated since May 2024.
Now Trump is fighting back – and he brought the proof straight to the White House.
On Tuesday, he invited the champions of seven non-revenue college sports to the State Dining Room and issued a warning every university president in America heard loud and clear.
The Pipeline Nobody in the Media Is Talking About
Three out of four American Olympians got there through college sports.
Not through national academies like China and Russia use.
Through college wrestling rooms, college swimming pools, college gymnastics programs – the exact programs that university administrators have been cutting by the hundreds since the NCAA's $2.8 billion revenue-sharing settlement went into effect last year.
In Ohio alone, Division I wrestling has collapsed to just three programs.
Men's gymnastics has dwindled to just 15 programs nationwide – and that number was already that low back in 2022.
The entire development system for America's Olympic gymnasts fits inside a number you can count on your hands.
Cleveland State killed its wrestling team – a program that was the top fundraiser on campus, pulling in over $500,000 in donations – to balance the spreadsheets.

Cal Poly shuttered both its swimming programs in a single announcement.
The math driving these decisions is simple: schools must now pay football and basketball players up to $20.5 million a year under the House v. NCAA settlement.
Something has to go.
It's always the wrestlers and the swimmers and the gymnasts.
The ones who win your gold medals.
"75% of Olympians competing for Team USA played as college athletes," Trump said Tuesday.
"Without college sports, without your ability to go into college sports and compete and learn really how to play and get better, we're not going to have much of an Olympic team anymore."
U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Committee CEO Sarah Hirshland said the same thing last year, and nobody listened.
"If we let this get to the point of crisis," she warned, "it will decimate these programs and Team USA for decades to come."

Trump Signed the Order – Now He's Showing Why It Matters
Three weeks ago, Trump signed his most aggressive intervention into college sports yet.
The executive order – "Urgent National Action to Save College Sports" – gives the NCAA until August 1, 2026 to establish rules protecting Olympic and women's sports scholarships, cap eligibility at five years, and rein in the transfer chaos that turned college athletics into a bidding war.
The enforcement mechanism is the part you won't hear about on ESPN.
Schools that violate the rules risk losing federal grants and contracts.
Nick Saban called it "a critical step towards restoring stability in college sports."
Tuesday's White House ceremony put a face on exactly who gets sacrificed when the money runs out.
Youngstown State bowling. Oklahoma State golf. Texas A&M volleyball. Wake Forest tennis. Georgia tennis. West Virginia rifle. Florida State soccer.
These programs survive because someone fought to keep them funded.
Trump just made clear that someone is now him.

Democrats cheered on the lawsuits and settlements that blew up college athletics in the first place.

They celebrated when football players started getting paid.
They said nothing when the wrestling rooms went dark.
Consider what's already gone: 85% of the men's and women's freestyle wrestling team that competed for America in Paris trained through college programs.
A pipeline that is being dismantled one budget meeting at a time.
The LA28 Olympics are two years away.
The athletes who will carry the American flag in Los Angeles are in college right now.
Or they were – until their programs got cut to fund a five-star quarterback's NIL deal.
America doesn't produce Olympic champions through government programs.
We do it through college sports.
Gut the system in the name of revenue sharing, and you don't just lose the wrestling room.
You lose the gold medals.
