Donald Trump Ordered an Investigation Into Missing Nuclear Scientists and James Comer Just Revealed Why

Foreign assassins killed five Iranian nuclear scientists in a decade-long campaign to cripple Tehran's weapons program.

Now eleven American scientists tied to nuclear weapons and space research are dead or missing – and nobody can explain it.

Congress just opened a formal investigation into what James Comer called "something sinister."

Dead and Missing Scientists at Los Alamos and NASA JPL: Who They Are and What They Knew

The list reads like a classified who's who of America's most sensitive programs.

Retired Air Force Maj. Gen. William "Neil" McCasland – the man who oversaw classified space weapons programs and ran research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base – walked out of his New Mexico home on February 27 without his phone, his prescription glasses, or his wearable devices.

He has not been seen since.

Monica Jacinto Reza, an aerospace engineer who developed patented metals used in rocket manufacturing at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, vanished mid-hike in the Angeles National Forest in June 2025.

Her hiking companion was thirty feet away when it happened.

Reza's rocket materials work was funded by the Air Force Research Laboratory that McCasland later commanded.

MIT physicist Nuno Loureiro – one of the world's leading experts on nuclear fusion plasma – was shot to death inside his home in December 2025.

Carl Grillmair, a Caltech astrophysicist who worked on NASA's asteroid-detection missions, was shot and killed on his porch.

NASA researcher Michael David Hicks, who contributed to the DART project that altered an asteroid's trajectory, died in 2023 with no public cause of death released.

Frank Maiwald, a NASA engineer, turned up dead with no cause disclosed.

Rep. Eric Burlison, who has tracked these cases for over a year, put it plainly: "They just literally disappeared, left all of their devices at home. This is not normal."

Former FBI Official Calls It Espionage and Congress Is Treating It That Way

House Oversight Chairman James Comer told Fox & Friends Weekend on Sunday that he initially dismissed the pattern as "some kind of crazy conspiracy theory."

Then he read the details.

Comer has now sent formal letters to the FBI, NASA, the Department of Energy, and the Department of Defense – the four agencies these eleven individuals were primarily affiliated with.

He wants full briefings from each.

Former FBI Assistant Director Chris Swecker didn't mince words about what investigators look for first in a pattern like this.

"The first thing you go to is potential espionage," Swecker told the Daily Mail. "Our scientists have been targeted for a long time, especially in the rocket propulsion area, by hostile foreign intelligence services."

Burlison named the suspects directly: China, Russia, and Iran.

Energy Secretary Chris Wright confirmed a formal Department of Energy probe is underway as part of a coordinated government-wide investigation.

When asked if anything alarming had surfaced, Wright said it was "too early to say."

The NNSA – the agency that maintains America's nuclear arsenal – is also looking into the cases.

Trump told reporters Thursday he had just left a meeting on the subject.

"I hope it's random," Trump said, "but we're going to know in the next week and a half."

This Is Exactly How Enemy Operations Work

Here is what your government will not say out loud but your history books confirm.

The Soviet Union ran Operation Enormoz for years – a coordinated effort to penetrate the Manhattan Project and steal America's most classified nuclear secrets.

They recruited American scientists at Los Alamos.

They succeeded.

The Soviets built their atomic bomb years ahead of schedule because of what they stole from American labs – specifically from Los Alamos, the exact same facility where multiple scientists on this list worked or had connections.

China has been running continuous nuclear espionage operations against American labs since at least the 1970s.

The 1999 Cox Committee report confirmed Beijing stole classified designs for every advanced thermonuclear warhead in the U.S. arsenal – the W88, the neutron bomb, weapons simulation codes – and America didn't even know it was happening until 1995.

Iran watched foreign assassins pick off five of its top nuclear scientists between 2010 and 2020.

The pattern worked – Tehran's program was set back years.

Now look at the American list again.

Eleven scientists – nuclear weapons engineers, plasma physicists, aerospace materials specialists, classified space program researchers – dead or missing across a three-year window.

A former FBI counterintelligence official publicly named espionage as the first hypothesis.

Both times America's own labs were penetrated – by the Soviets, then by China – the government insisted there was no confirmed connection until it was too late to matter.

Now the same labs are losing the same kinds of people – and the official line is, again, that there's no confirmed pattern.

Maybe there isn't.

But the people who built America's most dangerous weapons are vanishing, and the countries who want those weapons most are watching every move we make.

Comer put it plainly: "These are the people that were at the forefront of it. And they're either dead or missing."

Trump wants answers by next Saturday.

So does everyone who understands what's at stake.
