Donald Trump continues to fill out his team.
The latest Trump pick left Washington, D.C. stunned.
And Donald Trump named this Fox News star as his Secretary of Defense.
Donald Trump names Pete Hegseth Secretary of Defense
Secretary of Defense – along with Attorney General and Secretary of State – is one of the plum cabinet posts.
In Trump’s first term, his original Secretary of Defense – General James Mattis – was a swamp leftist who opposed Trump on banning transgender troops from serving in the military and who resigned in protest over Trump’s plan to withdraw troops from Syria.
Trump then named Mark Esper to the post.
Esper fought Trump on invoking the Insurrection Act to deploy the military to put down the Black Lives Matter terrorists burning American cities to the ground in the summer of 2020.
Trump wasn’t making any similar mistakes this time around.
And Trump named decorated military veteran and current Fox & Friends co-host, Pete Hegseth, as his nominee to be Secretary of Defense.
“I am honored to announce that I have nominated Pete Hegseth to serve in my Cabinet as The Secretary of Defense. Pete has spent his entire life as a Warrior for the Troops, and for the Country,” a statement from Trump announcing the nomination read.
Trump lauded Hegseth’s Princeton and Harvard education as well as his dedication to an America First foreign policy as key qualifications for the role.
In February 2022, Hegseth said on Fox News that what was happening in Ukraine was a tragedy but that it “pales in comparison” to the problems in the United States.
“But it pales in comparison to the crime I see in my streets, to the wokeness I see in my culture, to the inflation I see at my pocketbook, to the real border I care about, which is the southern border, which is wide open. On every single issue, the quality of life of average Americans has gone down,” Hegseth stated.
Hegseth is also a decorated warfighter, having won two Bronze Stars for his heroic service during deployments in Iraq and Afghanistan.
“Pete is tough, smart, and a true believer in America First. With Pete at the helm, America’s enemies are on notice – Our Military will be Great Again, and America will Never Back Down. Pete is a graduate of Princeton University, and has a Graduate Degree from Harvard University,” Trump continued.
“He is an Army Combat Veteran who did tours in Guantanamo Bay, Iraq, and Afghanistan. For his actions on the battlefield, he was decorated with two Bronze Stars, as well as a Combat Infantryman’s Badge,” Trump added.
The swamp objects
The Left went crazy over Hegseth.
One military-industrial complex lobbyist exclaimed to POLITICO “who the f*** is this guy?” when informed of the selection.
The swamp lobbyist claimed Trump should have named “someone who actually has an extensive background in defense. That would be a good start.”
Fox News contributor and former House Oversight Committee Chairman Jason Chaffetz threw down the gauntlet, saying Hegseth was eminently qualified for the position and that any Republican Senator who opposed his confirmation risked massive political blowback.
“I think he’ll get easily confirmed,” Chaffetz told host Laura Ingraham. “I dare any Republican senator to vote against him. That is not in their best interest. And we need to get him in place as soon as possible. Relief is on the way. This is exactly what I think America was striving for. And I can’t believe how excited I am.”
