Republicans gave Maria Salazar 81 percent of the vote in her primary.
Donald Trump personally endorsed her to get there.
Donald Trump just called out a Republican for using his endorsement to push amnesty for 17 million illegal aliens.
The Double-Cross No One Expected
Salazar didn't even wait long to show her hand.
In mid-September, she posted a video talking directly to Trump – comparing him to Abraham Lincoln and Ronald Reagan while lecturing him that his deportation numbers had "gone too far."
Then she denied there was any amnesty in her amnesty bill.
The bill is called the DIGNIDAD Act – not even translated into English, despite Trump signing an executive order making English the nation's official language.
And what does the bill actually do?
It grants legal status to up to 10.5 million illegal immigrants who entered before 2021, with a direct path to citizenship for 2.5 million so-called "Dreamers" through a section of the bill literally titled "DREAM ACT."
George Mason University law professor Ilya Somin – no immigration hardliner – acknowledged the bill "gives legal status to large numbers of people, potentially millions, who would otherwise be eligible for deportation."
That's amnesty.
She just doesn't want to call it that.
Who's Bankrolling This Betrayal
Salazar didn't come up with this scheme alone.
The National Association of Manufacturers is backing her bill.
Rupert Murdoch's Wall Street Journal and New York Post are cheerleading for it.
Corporate America's position is simple: they want cheap labor, and they don't particularly care about the rule of law if it gets in the way.
Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska is co-signing it.
Democrats – the same ones who spent four years screaming about border chaos – are now lining up to help her push it through.
The mechanism she's using is a discharge petition – a parliamentary move that bypasses House leadership and forces a floor vote with a simple majority.
This is not the first time this play has been run.
In 2018, a different Florida Republican named Carlos Curbelo tried the exact same tactic during Trump's first term – using a discharge petition to force a DACA amnesty vote.
It failed.
It failed because Republican voters made clear they hadn't elected Republicans to legalize the people who broke in.
Salazar is betting the outcome will be different this time.
Why Salazar Needs the Lame-Duck Window to Pull This Off
The timing here is not accidental.
Salazar is specifically targeting the lame-duck session after November's election – the window when retiring Republican members have nothing left to lose and everything to gain from doing a last-minute favor for their donors.
Trump shared several posts attacking Salazar on Truth Social over the weekend.
“So we need a NEW Republican to Replace Salazar,” one post read.
“She’s openly pro-amnesty,” another wrote. “I think it’s her own personal agenda, not just about donors.”
“Why would a person go against constituents in her own District??” another asked. “Find the money and follow it.”
Trump's posts on Truth Social over the weekend weren't just about Salazar.

They were a warning to every Republican in the House considering signing that discharge petition.
The message was simple: he remembers who endorsed them, he remembers who they ran as, and he's watching what they do next.
Republicans were elected in 2024 because voters trusted them to enforce the border – not hand millions of people a path to citizenship at the request of corporate lobbyists and Rupert Murdoch.
The people who voted for Trump did not vote for this.
Trump is making sure every Republican who might be tempted by Salazar's donor money understands exactly what it will cost them.
