Greene did not wake up one morning and decide to cross Donald Trump.
She spent those six years defending him – through impeachments, through legal battles, through every ugly fight the party asked her to take on.
Then she stood outside the Capitol with women who said Jeffrey Epstein trafficked them as teenagers and refused to back down when the White House told her to walk away from the discharge petition forcing a vote on the Epstein files.

Trump called her "Marjorie Traitor Greene."
He threatened to fund a primary against her.
He stopped returning her calls and then publicly mocked her for complaining about it.
Greene went to the Capitol steps with the survivors anyway and said this to reporters: "I was called a traitor by a man that I fought for. And I gave him my loyalty for free."
She announced her resignation that same week.
Trump posted on Truth Social that she had "PLUMMETING Poll Numbers" and "went BAD."
Ilhan Omar Went on a Podcast and Said the Part Democrats Wanted Left Unsaid
On April 11, Omar appeared on Pod Save America and described tracking Greene down on the House floor before she left Congress.
She thanked her.
Not symbolically.
In person.
Then Omar told the podcast audience what she thinks the lesson is: Democrats should "put our arms around" every former Trump loyalist who has broken with him and figure out together how to fight back.
She said Greene deserves credit for "finally seeing this con man, this corrupt, chaotic man, for what he is."
Omar is not wrong that there is an opportunity here.
She is wrong that saying it out loud on a national podcast is smart politics for her party.

What Trump Calling Greene a Traitor Means for Every Republican Who Backed Him
The Greene story is not really about Greene.
It is about the price Trump charges for loyalty when he decides the invoice is overdue.
When she pushed for the Epstein files because she believed Epstein's victims deserved justice, Trump decided she had become inconvenient.
He called her a traitor, threatened her district with a primary, stopped taking her calls, and endorsed her replacement the moment she was gone.
The replacement's main qualification was pledging publicly that he would "have President Trump's back on Capitol Hill" and not become "a thorn in his side" – a phrase everyone in that district understood was aimed directly at Greene.
This is the pattern Omar spotted.
And she is right that it creates an opening.
What she is describing – former Trump loyalists who feel burned and are now willing to work across the aisle – is a real phenomenon.
The question Republicans in that district and across the country have to sit with is simpler: if Trump will call Marjorie Taylor Greene a traitor for standing with trafficking survivors, what would he call you?
