Jack Hughes scored in overtime to beat Canada and win America's first men's hockey gold since 1980.
That was six months ago – and Trump just made sure the whole team got the celebration they deserved.
Last night at the White House, Trump gathered America's greatest winter athletes in the East Room and made clear this country still knows how to honor its champions.
Trump Packed the East Room With Champions
About 150 athletes who represented Team USA at the 2026 Milano Cortina Games showed up Thursday – windbreakers on, coaches at their sides, gold medals earned.
The event was supposed to be outdoors.
Heavy rain pushed it inside, where athletes stacked the risers three rows deep while Trump called them "perhaps the greatest group of Winter Olympians in American history."
He wasn't wrong.
Team USA finished the Milano Cortina Games with 57 total medals, including 25 gold.
Standing in that room was the man who made the difference – speedskater Jordan Stolz, 21 years old, from Wisconsin, and the single most-decorated American athlete at these Games.
Stolz walked away from Italy with two golds – in the 500m and 1000m – and a silver in the 1500m.
His 1000m time of 1:06.28 didn't just win the race – it shattered an Olympic record that had stood for 24 years.
He became the first male athlete to sweep the 500m and 1000m at a single Olympics since Eric Heiden did it at Lake Placid in 1980.
Trump knew exactly who Stolz was – and made sure the room did too.
During a rally in Wisconsin earlier this summer, Stolz had draped one of his gold medals around the president's neck.
The Moment the Room Will Remember
The athletes didn't just come to listen.
They brought gifts – a commemorative Team USA jacket and custom sneakers for the president.
Trump gave something back: a promise of presidential coins for every athlete in the room, plus a post-reception tour of the Oval Office.
Bobsledder Kaillie Humphries presented Trump with the Order of Ikkos – an award Olympians give to people who made a difference in their lives.
Trump asked the room who was already training for the next Olympics.

Most of the athletes raised their hands.
He reminded them that the 2034 Winter Olympics come home to Salt Lake City – and the 2028 Summer Games land in Los Angeles.
Then he said what every man and woman in that room had earned: "These men and women sacrificed years of their lives and countless early mornings to be the best in the world."
Trump also addressed women's sports directly – telling the athletes that his administration is "doing everything we can to protect the cherished sporting traditions that have long been part of our nation."
Trump Gave These Athletes What Washington Rarely Does
Thursday's reception was the final chapter in a story that started in February in Milan.
The men's hockey team came back first – the Air Force flew them to Washington the day of the State of the Union, where Trump honored them before a joint session of Congress and announced goaltender Connor Hellebuyck would receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
Democrats stood and cheered alongside Republicans for well over a minute.
Trump cracked the best line of the night: "That's the first time I've ever seen them get up."

Now, six months later, the rest of Team USA got their moment.
That's not a photo op.
Jordan Stolz shattered a 24-year-old Olympic record and joined Eric Heiden in the record books.
The men's hockey team beat Canada in overtime – in Italy – and brought home gold for the first time in 46 years.
A 21-year-old from Wisconsin put a gold medal around the president's neck.
That's what America winning looks like.
