The Senate passed a bill to end Daylight Saving Time changes in 2022 – unanimously – and House leadership buried it.
Trump watched Congress waste four years doing nothing and just made them try again.
And this week they will finally vote on a bill that would let states lock in year-round Daylight Saving Time.
The Bill That Keeps Coming Back to Life
The Sunshine Protection Act just cleared the House Rules Committee 6-4, setting up a full floor vote this week.
The bill would let states lock in year-round Daylight Saving Time – with an opt-out for states that want it.
The Senate passed a version of this bill in 2022 – unanimously.
Then House leadership buried it and pretended it never happened.

Four years of clock-changing, groggy Monday mornings, and hundreds of millions in compliance costs later, Trump stepped in.
"I am going to work very hard to see The Sunshine Protection Act signed into Law," Trump wrote on Truth Social after the bill cleared committee in May. "It's time that people can stop worrying about the 'Clock,' not to mention all of the work and money that is spent on this ridiculous, twice-yearly production."
He called it "an easy one."
He's right.
What Two Clock Changes Per Year Actually Cost You
The research on this has been piling up for decades and the establishment media simply ignores it.
Every spring, Americans lose one hour of sleep when the clocks jump forward.
A study of Michigan hospital admissions found a 24% spike in heart attacks the Monday after the spring time change.
Stroke rates jump 8% in the two days following both clock changes, according to research cited by UT Southwestern Medical Center.

Fatal traffic accidents increase 6% in the mornings immediately after the spring switch.
Stanford Medicine researchers who studied all three possible time policies – permanent standard time, permanent Daylight Saving Time, and the current biannual switch – found that eliminating the switch improves health outcomes across the board.
The clock change isn't tradition.
It's a twice-annual health experiment being run on 330 million Americans without their consent.
The Opposition Is Telling on Itself
Democrats tried to flip the bill to permanent standard time and got shut down.
Some Freedom Caucus members complained that Republicans should focus on bigger issues.
"Republicans are majoring in the minors – fiddling with the clocks while the country burns," Rep. Keith Self of Texas wrote Monday.
With respect to Rep. Self, that framing misses the point entirely.
The Sunshine Protection Act cleared the House Energy and Commerce Committee 48-1 in May, twenty states have laws ready to take effect the moment Congress acts, and the Senate companion bill by Sen. Rick Scott has already cleared committee.
Trump wants it done.
This is not a distraction from governing – this is governing.
The Freedom Caucus argument only makes sense if you believe Congress can only do one thing at a time, which is exactly what Democrats have been counting on for years.
Meanwhile, senators like Tom Cotton are promising to fight the bill because children might have to go to school in the dark for a few winter months.
America tried permanent Daylight Saving Time in 1974 and abandoned it.

What they're not telling you is why: not because the policy was wrong, but because Nixon imposed it abruptly as an energy rationing measure during a gas crisis – and public approval collapsed when people hadn't chosen it themselves.
This version lets states opt out.
Tom Cotton doesn't have an objection to the policy – he has an objection to Florida Republicans getting a win.
Why This One Actually Gets Done
Every previous attempt died because the Senate moved and the House did nothing.
Trump flips that equation.
He's the reason this cleared committee and cleared the Rules Committee, and he will be the reason wavering Republicans in swing districts vote yes instead of quietly abstaining.
Seventy-five percent of Americans want to stop changing clocks twice a year.
That's not a narrow constituency – that's every neighbor, every family member, every voter your congressman runs into at the grocery store.
Medical organizations can argue about whether standard time or Daylight Saving Time is healthier all they want – the data is clear that the switching itself is the killer.
Four years of Congressional cowardice on this issue just ran out of runway.
