Congress Just Caught McKinsey Selling a Lie That Cost America $94 Billion

McKinsey charged corporations millions to tell them DEI was the secret to profits.

Now a Texas congressman just proved the research was junk – and American workers paid the price.

Brandon Gill just sent McKinsey a letter exposing their DEI research as fraudulent from the foundation up.

The Consulting Giant That Rigged the Research

McKinsey & Company published four reports between 2015 and 2023 with titles like Diversity Wins and Diversity Matters, each claiming that companies with more racial and gender diversity dramatically outperformed their competitors.

Corporate boards read those reports.

HR departments rewrote their hiring rules.

Asset managers embedded racial and gender quotas into proxy voting policies.

And McKinsey got paid – handsomely – to tell every Fortune 500 company that merit-based hiring was leaving money on the table.

There was one problem.

Independent researchers at Texas A&M and the University of North Carolina tried to replicate McKinsey's findings.

They couldn't.

The 30-page analysis published in Econ Journal Watch found that McKinsey's methodology was compromised at the foundation – the firm measured diversity after measuring financial performance, meaning the causal arrow ran exactly backward.

More successful companies hired more diverse employees because they could afford to.

McKinsey flipped that around and told the world that diverse companies became successful.

When London Business School finance professor Alex Edmans – who openly said he personally wanted the findings to be correct – ran his own independent analysis, he reached the same conclusion: the research didn't hold up.

McKinsey kept the reports live on its website without a single correction.

$94 Billion Gone and Nobody Asked Questions

Gill's letter points out that 51 federal agencies – including the Department of Labor, the intelligence community, and the U.S. Navy – cited McKinsey's flawed numbers to justify pushing racial and gender-based hiring across the entire federal government.

The Biden Pentagon used McKinsey's claim that gender-diverse organizations are 15 percent more likely to outperform to diversity-train the military.

The 2026 White House Economic Report put a dollar figure on the damage: $94 billion drained from the U.S. economy every single year from race and gender-based hiring practices.

Gill's letter calls it what it is – a violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, which has prohibited racial discrimination in employment for over 60 years.

"Racial discrimination in the employment context, including under the guise of DEI, has been pervasive despite being plainly illegal for over half a century," Gill wrote.

McKinsey's website still says the business case for DEI is "strong and growing stronger."

The Man Who Made the Smithsonian Squirm Is Now Coming for McKinsey

Brandon Gill is the youngest Republican in the House, a Texas congressman who chairs the Task Force on Defending Constitutional Rights and Exposing Institutional Abuses, and he's spent the last month turning the Oversight Committee into the most consequential hearing room in Washington.

In July, he grilled the Smithsonian's director over exhibits teaching that Mickey Mouse's creation was rooted in racism.

He made the American Bar Association's president defend how DEI captured law school accreditation.

He got a witness to confirm on camera that DEI's primary victims are white and Asian Americans.

Now he's coming after the firm that manufactured the intellectual cover for all of it.

McKinsey didn't create DEI.

But McKinsey gave corporations the fake data that made race-based hiring look like a business strategy instead of what it actually was – a civil rights violation dressed up in consulting language.

Every company that embedded racial quotas into hiring, promotions, and executive compensation can point to a McKinsey report as the justification.

That's not consulting.

That's a $94 billion con.
