Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has been tasked with trying to find a way to pass Joe Biden’s agenda through the Senate.
He’s been largely unsuccessful so far.
But Chuck Schumer received a letter that is sending shockwaves through Washington, D.C.
Through the first seven months of Biden’s Presidency, the vast majority of the radical Left’s agenda has been stalled in the U.S. Senate.
The 50-50 party split has made it extremely difficult for either party to get anything done.
So far, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) has been apprehensive of taking up votes on controversial bills and Biden administration nominations.
Some political experts have been speculating that he’s choosing not to take votes on major Democrat ticket items so as to hold it over the Republicans’ heads to further rile up the radical so-called “progressive” voter base.
Others have said he simply doesn’t want to hemorrhage political capital by taking loss after loss if he were to take more issues to a full Senate floor vote.
One of the biggest votes hanging over the U.S. Senate has been Joe Biden’s nominee for the director of the Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms agency (ATF), David Chipman.
Chipman’s nomination was looking like a 50-50 affair for a couple months, but the longer he went unconfirmed to the director seat, the more he was vulnerable to be exposed by gun owners and gun advocate groups across the country.
The latest instance of attacks he’s taken comes from seven of his very own colleagues from the ATF, who’ve signed a letter to the Senate Judiciary Committee saying that he shouldn’t be the leader of the ATF.
Their biggest argument is that he is far too cocksure and conceited to be the ATF director.
The letter reads:
David’s strong personal beliefs on firearms issues will create serious and long-lasting problems for the Bureau and the effective execution of its law enforcement mission.
Unfortunately, if David were confirmed, ATF partners would see someone who is coming to the agency with his top priority being to implement a divisive gun control agenda.
We are very familiar with his leadership style and his approach to leading the agency. While an agent, David did not exhibit the collaborative and respectful type of leadership required of an agency Director that must manage a diverse workforce with challenging issues. While we can say without hesitation that David is very smart, we can also say without hesitation that he was very often not a team player and had a troubling tendency to think he was always right.
This is another damning hit Chipman’s nomination has taken and his chances of making it through the Senate are growing more bleak by the day.
At this point, there is no reasonable doubt that Chipman would be far too toxic as director of the ATF and would go out of his way to peddle the radical Left’s gun control agenda, even if it means more executive overreach by legislating gun control from the federal register.
But there’s more at stake than just Chipman’s nomination to lead the ATF.
The Biden administration has nominated unprecedented controversial picks to sections of the executive branch.
It’s left a sour taste in much of the American public.
Another loss on their record by failing to confirm Chipman would be viewed as a win by the majority of Americans at this point.
And it would reflect poorly on the Biden administration.
In turn, Chuck Schumer would lose the political capital he is so fearful to lose.
The Democrats are indicating that they intend to continue the process to confirm Chipman after the August recess, but he’s yet to even be voted out of the Judiciary Committee.
Schumer is likely unwilling to let the Democrats in the Judiciary Committee push him to a full Senate floor vote unless he’s sure the Democrats have the votes.
So in the meantime, Chipman is left out to dry while the Democrats give themselves one more shot to gather the votes.
Ultimately, should his nomination fail, it will be a major black eye for Joe Biden and the Democrats ahead of the critical 2022 midterms which could change absolutely everything.
