Chuck Schumer is up to his ears in problems.
He just got the straw that broke the camel’s back.
And Chuck Schumer got some scary news that confirmed his worst nightmare.
Vulnerable Democrat Senator in deep trouble
The battle control of the Senate is heating up in the closing weeks of the election.
One of the biggest races this year is between U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and his Republican challenger Bernie Moreno.
Brown is one of the most vulnerable Democrat incumbents up for re-election this year.
He has to share a ballot with former President Donald Trump who won the state by eight points in the 2016 and 2020 Elections.
Ohio was one the premier swing states in the country, but it’s become increasingly Republican in the Trump era.
The former President won Ohio in 2020 by a bigger margin than Texas.
Brown is the last Democrat in Ohio elected to statewide office.
A pair of polls show that he’s in danger heading into Election Day.
An RMG Research poll – founded by pollster Scott Rasmussen – found Moreno leading Brown by 48% to 46%.
Another survey from ActiVote found Moreno out in front by a 51.1% to 48.9% margin.
The RealClearPolitics polling average has Brown ahead by a 3.3-point margin but Moreno is gaining momentum in the homestretch.
“This is bad,” the Ohio Democratic Party wrote in a fundraising email after the polls broke. “We can’t let Bernie Moreno gain any more ground — not if we want to keep the Senate blue.”
Moreno should be able to count on getting a leg up from sharing the ballot this November with Trump.
Some polls have found the former President winning Ohio in the low double digits.
Democrats’ hope of holding the Senate takes a blow
Senate Democrats are clinging to a narrow 51-49 majority heading into Election Day.
Republicans have one guaranteed pick-up after Democrats wrote off West Virginia’s Senate seat when U.S. Senator Joe Manchin (I-WV) decided to retire.
A win there would put Republicans at a 50-50 tie in the Senate.
Winning Ohio or Montana would give the GOP a 51-seat majority next year.
Brown, who was first elected to the Senate in 2006, is only used to running in years that are good for Democrats.
Now, he’s got to try to portray himself as a moderate after serving as a rubber stamp for Democrats in the Senate.
National Republican Senatorial Committee spokesman Philip Letsou said that Brown’s luck is running out this election.
“Sherrod Brown sold out his working-class base to toe the Democrat Party line,” Lestou said.
“He’s been voting in lockstep with Chuck Schumer and Kamala Harris for open borders, higher taxes, and anti-worker green energy policies,” Letsou added. “Now, after over 50 years of Brown in politics, Ohio voters are ready to send him home.”
Moreno – who was endorsed by Trump and U.S. Senator J.D. Vance – has been hammering Brown on inflation.
He launched a $25 million ad campaign featuring a single mom struggling with the price of groceries.
Republican groups and his campaign will have spent more than $150 million in ads by Election Day – the most the GOP has spent on a Senate race this cycle.
Sherrod Brown going down to defeat could be the race that gives Republicans the Senate majority.
