Cate Blanchett played one role that will have leftists pulling out their hair

Hollywood has been constantly pushing “wokeness” over the past several years.

But the tide might be gradually turning.

And Cate Blanchett played one role that will have leftists pulling out their hair.

Everybody knows that Hollywood is incredibly left-wing.

The problem of left-wing bias got even worse after the election of Donald Trump.

But audiences have shown over and over that they’re getting tired of “wokeness,” as is broader society.

Wokeness is the latest form of political correctness, and the political correctness of the late 1980s-early ‘90s was beaten up, at least temporarily.

The backlash to wokeness might be underway.

Now award-winning actress Cate Blanchett is playing a character in the film Tár that has no time for woke nonsense.

In the film, Blanchett plays a fierce orchestra conductor and composer who suffers no fools.

In a clip that went viral, Blachett’s character chastises a student for dismissing legendary composer Johan Sebastian Bach because he was a white male.

A student says to Lydia Tár, Blanchett’s character, “Nowadays, white, male, cis composers — just not my thing.”

She responded, “Don’t be so eager to be offended . . . The narcissism of small differences leads to the most boring conformity. The problem with enrolling yourself as an ultrasonic, epistemic dissident is that if Bach’s talent can be reduced to his gender, birth country, religion, sexuality and so on, then so can yours.”

The student storms out of the room and curses her under his breath to which she replies, “And you are a robot. Unfortunately, the architect of your soul appears to be social media.”

Blanchett and the film’s writer-director Todd Field are certainly not conservatives and her character is portrayed as a villain in the film, but it is nonetheless subversive for competent characters to speak the truth.

Even if Tár is a villain, what she says in the scene is demonstrably true, and the student is clearly on the wrong side of the exchange.

Field, a trained jazz musician, is likely annoyed with the infusion of wokeness into music, even if he has liberal sensibilities.

Music has always had the power to bring people together and break down barriers, and the radical Left are attempting to undo that with their cultish ideology.

The assault on classical music is a real phenomenon.

Not only have leftists complained that there are too many celebrated white European composers, Oxford’s music department toyed with the idea of getting rid of sheet music altogether.

The university quickly backed off, but the fact that it was even considered shows how quickly the mind virus has spread.

Tár may have a left-wing bent, but the fact that it pushed back against wokeness at all is a small victory for sanity.
