Two kids built a lemonade stand in South Boston and a masked teenager robbed them at gunpoint.
That happened last Wednesday afternoon – in the city Michelle Wu calls the safest major city in America.
Now a second suspect is still walking free while Wu celebrated at a community photo-op.
What Happened on West Ninth Street
David Byrne, 12, and his sister Juliette, 11, were selling lemonade after school when two masked teenagers circled the stand several times before walking up and asking whether the kids took Apple Pay.
Before they could answer, one of the suspects grabbed the cash box.
Then he showed them the gun.
"He walked over here, he said, 'I might need to take the box,' and he grabbed it with one hand, and then he showed us the gun," David told CBS News Boston.
Juliette put her hands up.
Her brother told her to hand it over.
They took roughly $50 and ran.

Boston Police released surveillance video the next day – two masked figures in all black, one clutching a pink box – and the tips came in fast enough to land a 14-year-old suspect in custody by Friday afternoon.
BPD deserves credit for that.
A name and an arrest in 48 hours is exactly what good police work looks like.
The suspect now faces two counts of armed robbery and two counts of unlawful possession of a firearm.
He'll be processed as a juvenile delinquent in Boston Juvenile Court.
The second suspect is still out there.
The Mayor Who Showed Up for the Photo
Michelle Wu attended the community support lemonade stand on Friday – the one organized in response to the robbery – and called it a perfect example of Boston coming together.
What she didn't address was how a 14-year-old in her city had a firearm tucked into his waistband on a Wednesday afternoon.
Wu has spent years building a record that explains exactly how that happens.
She pushed to abolish the Boston Police gang registry – the database that tracks known gang members and their associates.

She backed a do-not-prosecute list championed by former Suffolk County DA Rachael Rollins, which identified categories of charges that shouldn't be filed at all.
Theft was on that list.
She's also the mayor who, in February 2026, vowed to investigate, film, and hold accountable any ICE agent operating in her city – declaring war on federal law enforcement while two masked kids with a gun were robbing children on residential street corners.
Wu calls Boston the safest major city in America – and by some homicide metrics, that claim has a foundation.
But David and Juliette Byrne weren't worried about the homicide rate when a masked teenager pointed a gun at them to steal $50 from a lemonade stand.
What It Means That the Second Suspect Is Still Free
Boston launched a youth safety task force specifically because of a documented spike in juvenile firearms arrests and youth-involved shootings.
The task force response? Summer jobs and community healing circles.
The response to two children being robbed at gunpoint? A photo opportunity.
What doesn't happen in Boston has serious consequences for juveniles who commit armed robbery.
The 14-year-old in custody will be arraigned on delinquency charges – not adult criminal charges, not federal weapons charges.

A kid armed himself, masked up, stalked two children at their lemonade stand, grabbed their money, and flashed a firearm at an 11-year-old girl.
The system Wu built will treat that as a youth services referral.
Meanwhile his partner is somewhere in South Boston tonight – and Michelle Wu has no answer for that.
David Byrne put it better than any policy paper ever could.
"We were 12 and 11," he said, "and you shouldn't really do that."
He's right.
And somewhere in that same neighborhood, the second suspect already knows the system Wu built won't do much when they find him either.
