New York Democrats just spent $850 million of your money on a football stadium.
Now the governor who signed that check showed up to take a victory lap – and the crowd treated her like a stranger who wandered onto the stage.
The Bills faithful just gave Hochul the most honest review of her governorship she will ever get.
The Most Expensive Silence in New York History
Hochul walked out wearing Bills colors and a team hat, ready to fire up the crowd at the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Highmark Stadium in Orchard Park.
"Alright, let's get this party started, let's go!" she yelled.
Crickets.
She tried again.
"Buffalo, let's go!" – followed by a pointed call-and-response routine, waving at different sections of the arena to coax fans into joining.
Still nothing.
Hochul apparently decided the problem wasn't that the crowd didn't want to cheer for her – the problem was their enthusiasm.
"Alright, seriously? You want to win a championship season with that kind of enthusiasm?" she scolded.
Then she tried one more chant.
Silence again.
"We gotta give this place some good karma, right?" she said.
Kathy Hochul – the woman currently underwater in approval ratings with 46% of New Yorkers viewing her unfavorably – decided that what the Bills faithful needed was a karma lecture from their governor.
This Is What $850 Million Gets You
Hochul championed an $850 million public commitment to build this stadium – the largest taxpayer contribution to an NFL facility in American history.
That's your money.
Bills owner Terry Pegula has a net worth of $7 billion.
He also owns a $100 million yacht.
The stadium's final price tag hit $2.1 billion, a full $560 million over the original estimate.
Democrats in Albany were fine with that too.

Buffalo Bills fans are some of the toughest, most loyal fans in professional football – people who sit in open-air bleachers in January lake-effect snowstorms because they love their team.
They gave her silence because they know exactly who she is.
The Pattern Democrats Can't Escape
This isn't the first time a Democrat governor got the treatment they deserved at a sporting event.
Earlier this year, Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey and Boston Mayor Michelle Wu showed up to the Red Sox home opener at Fenway Park and were greeted with a full round of boos that left no ambiguity about how the crowd felt.
Hochul got something worse than boos.
She got indifferent.
Boos require effort – they mean people feel strongly enough to react.
Silence means the crowd looked at Kathy Hochul, calculated the energy required to respond, and decided she wasn't worth it.
The Siena College poll released in May put Hochul's favorability at 41-46% – her lowest rating in a year – with the steepest drops coming from independents, men, and voters in New York City.
Those are Bills fans in that stadium.
They know their governor pushed the hardest gun control package in New York history while crime ran unchecked.
They know she fumbled the migrant crisis while blaming everyone but herself.

They know she's running for re-election on an affordability message in a state so expensive that people are leaving by the hundreds of thousands.
The Bills open a new 60,000-seat facility on August 8 with a "Return of the Blue & Red" training camp practice.
Kathy Hochul paid for that building with your money, handed it to a billionaire with a $100 million yacht, showed up to take the credit, and got dead silence in return.
That's not an embarrassing moment.
That's a verdict.
