Legendary NFL coach Bill Belichick is out of football this season for the first time in decades.

He’s finally free to speak his mind.

And Bill Belichick revealed one terrible Democrat policy that has NFL players up in arms.

Democrats are costing NFL players

Legendary NFL head coach Bill Belichick spent 24 seasons as the leader of the New England Patriots before he and the team mutually parted ways after last season.

After bringing a then-little-known backup quarterback named Tom Brady out of obscurity and building the Patriots into an indisputable dynasty with six Super Bowl wins, there is little legitimate debate over Belichick’s rightful place atop any list of greatest coaches of all time.

Now that he’s not grinding away in the film room, meeting rooms, and the field for the first time in decades, he’s spending this NFL season appearing on Monday Night Football’s Manningcast, while keeping his options open to potentially make a triumphant return to the sidelines next season.

Belichick recently appeared on The Pat McAfee Show, where he revealed one of the challenges he faced during the end of his time in New England.

He said that a millionaire tax passed in Democrat-controlled Massachusetts that added an additional 4% tax on salaries above $1 million made many free agents reluctant to sign with the team – why sign with a team in a Democrat-controlled state when you can give yourself a significant raise by simply signing the exact same contract in a no income tax state, like Florida?

That tax gave Massachusetts one of the highest top-income tax brackets in the country.

“That’s a decision you have to make as a player,” Belichick explained. “You want to try to get as much as you can from the team you want to be with. If you’re already on the team, how much is it really worth by the time you move, pay your 50% tax or your millionaire’s tax in New England, you got that one too, what’s really the differential?”

States with no income tax have the edge in luring players

Belichick pointed to the NFL teams that play in states with no state income tax, like the Miami Dolphins, Jacksonville Jaguars, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Dallas Cowboys, Houston Texans, Las Vegas Raiders, and Tennessee Titans, as having an edge in attracting free agent talent.

“That’s Taxachusetts,” Belichick joked. “They take more from you. Virtually every player, even the minimum players, are pretty close to $1 million. So once you hit that $1 million threshold then you pay more state tax in Massachusetts. Just another thing you gotta contend with in the negotiations with up there. It’s not like Tennessee or Florida or Nevada or some of these teams that have no state income tax.”

The six-time Super Bowl Champion said agents would bring up the tax situation.

“You get hit pretty hard on that with the agents, they’ll come and sledgehammer you down about extra tax they’re paying,” Belichick said. “We don’t get any benefit from that.”

Belichick jokingly wondered where all the tax dollars that Massachusetts was collecting were going.

“We all want to pay our fair share. Where’s it going? I would like to learn that. But we’ll stay away from that,” Belichick said.

And teams in states with no income tax are using it in their pitches to players.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht said that he used Florida’s lack of an income tax when he tried to sell his quarterback Baker Mayfield on signing a new contract.

Democrats’ tax and spend agendas are hurting the professional sports teams in the states they control.
