Electric vehicles aren’t as clean as Democrats think
The electric vehicle is the key to saving the planet from being ravaged by climate change, according to Democrats.

Boosting electric vehicles has become an article of faith in the Democrat Party from President Joe Biden to Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and her Green New Deal.
A group of Senate Republicans are trying to put an end to the biggest deception about electric vehicles.
U.S. Senator Joni Ernst (R-IA) is demanding that the Biden-Harris administration curb deceptive advertising that falsely claims electric vehicles are “zero-emission” vehicles.
She and a group of her Republican Senate colleagues sent a letter to Federal Trade Commission (FTC) chair Lina Khan to create federal guidelines “to limit untruthful claims of zero-emission vehicles.”
The letter noted that the British Advertising Standards Authority mandates that automakers can only claim that electric vehicles are zero emission when they’re on the road.
The dirty fossil fuels powering the electric vehicle revolution
Electric vehicles require energy to move, just like vehicles with an internal combustion engine.
And the electricity to charge their batteries is almost always coming from dirty fossil fuels.
Fossil fuels like coal, natural gas, and diesel are being used to generate the electricity used to charge them.
“The Biden-Harris administration’s heavy-handed push for EVs conveniently ignores the environmental impacts these vehicles have,” Ernst’s letter states. “The lifecycle of an EV is far from zero-emission.”
Electric vehicles also generate massive amounts of pollution from mining needed for the minerals and rare earth metals to manufacture their batteries in China.
“While the president and vice president may wish to mislead the American people, it is the FTC’s duty to protect consumers from false and misleading advertisements,” the letter added. “We ask the FTC to investigate how EVs are being advertised and marketed to consumers.”
Democrats think that they’re saving the planet from total destruction by driving electric vehicles.
But they’re just shifting the release of dreaded greenhouse gases from one area to another.
Only a small fraction of the electricity used to charge them comes from green energy.
Ernst pointed to a study in her letter from MIT that found that 3,069 pounds of carbon dioxide are released into the atmosphere for every pound of lithium minded.
Copper, nickel, manganese, cobalt, and graphite are some of the minerals that have to be mined to manufacture their batteries.
“An EV is only emission-free when it runs out of battery on the side of the road between Joe Biden and Kamala Harris’s $7.5 billion ‘network’ of seven charging stations,” Ernst told the Washington Free Beacon. “We need to slam the brakes on more lies from Biden and Harris and hit reverse on their green new scam increasing costs for hardworking Iowans and making America reliant on China and slave labor.”
Electric vehicles are just a way for the wealthy coastal elites to virtue signal that they care about the environment.
