Congresswoman and bartender Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has been ridiculed and attacked by a lot of people, mostly for good cause.
But she’s been a darling of the progressive ‘woke’ wing of the Democrat party.
Now though, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is getting slapped around by LGBTQ activists for one truly bizarre reason.
Members of Congress do a lot of things most of us don’t even realize they do.
They answer constituent mail, take a lot of phone calls, give countless speeches, eat a lot of rubber chicken, and they name things.
They get to name bridges and roads, they name libraries and government buildings, they even name rooms in buildings.
And among the buildings they get to name, and rename, are post office buildings.
So when the Congresswoman put out the call to rename a local post office, no one thought much of it.
Well, almost no one.
It turns out this particular post office is named for a woman who co-founded the first organization for parents of gay and lesbian children in 1973.
So of course, this outraged LGBTQ advocates in her district and they made it clear they weren’t happy with the usually ‘woke enough’ congresswoman.
In a statement that is so full of irony we just had to print it here, activists accused Ocasio-Cortez of, get this, trying to erase history.
That’s right, the very people who have spent the last few years doing everything in their power to erase history are upset that one of their own is trying to do the very same thing to them.
“Is it that she doesn’t know our history?” former New York City Council member Daniel Dromm asked the New York Daily News. “Did they not check to see who the post office is named after right now? Does she not know who Jeanne Manford was?”
Dromm, who helped get the post office named for Jeanne and Jules Manford, before Ocasio-Cortez was elected, actually said a name change would “erase our history.”
You really can’t make this stuff up.
To make the entire situation even more bizarre, Ocasio-Cortez was looking to change the name to…honor an LGBTQ activist.
She first proposed the name change after members of the community suggested honoring the late LGBTQ advocate Lorena Borjas.
So her office started taking suggestions for a potential name change.
Dromm, for one, was having none of it.
“You don’t take one pioneer of the LGBT movement and pit them against another person,” Dromm told the Daily News.
He said this was “typical of her not being connected to the community.”
Another LGBTQ activist and leader of the Jim Owles Liberal Democratic Club, Allen Roskoff, said the organization is “outraged.”
It seems that the socialist darling has fallen to earth in her attempt to be more ‘woke’ than smart.
One thing is for sure, as long as they are fighting themselves, they are doing the nation less damage.
