A Top Democrat Senator Told 375,000 Trump Supporters That God Sent a Thunderstorm to Teach Them a Lesson

Raphael Warnock just called 375,000 Americans celebrating their country's 250th birthday liars who deserved a thunderstorm.

The Senator stood at a New York pulpit Sunday and announced that God sent the July 4 storm to force those patriots into a history lesson they didn't want.

This is a sitting US Senator – a man who calls himself a pastor – telling the people who showed up in the heat, waited through the lightning, and came back after the storm that the Almighty agreed with him about them.

The Sermon That Should End His Political Career

Warnock told the Abyssinian Baptist Church congregation exactly what he thinks of Trump supporters.

"They gathered on the mall 4th of July weekend, and they tried to tell a nice, neat, and antiseptic story," he said. "But God don't like ugly."

Then came the punchline.

"A thunderstorm appeared," Warnock continued. "And after the thunderstorm appeared, somebody said, 'You need to find some shelter.' And isn't it just like God, that right near where they were gathered, telling themselves a bunch of lies, there's a building called the African American History Museum."

So according to Warnock, God looked down at hundreds of thousands of Americans celebrating the greatest nation in human history and decided they needed a lesson.

He decided those people – many of them elderly, many who had traveled hundreds of miles for that once-in-a-generation event – were "telling themselves a bunch of lies."

And his tool of instruction was a thunderstorm.

While Warnock Preached in New York Trump Refused to Leave the Stage

Trump was on that stage refusing to quit.

"There's no way. If we have to speak in front of one person at 4 o'clock in the morning, I'm going to be here," the president told the crowd. "There's no way we can be deterred."

Trump had honored Sgt. William Carney – a man who escaped slavery, fought for the Union, was shot four times carrying the American flag, and refused to let it touch the ground before returning it to camp.

He called America "the crowning achievement of human history."

He celebrated Dave Crockett, Wyatt Earp, Annie Oakley, the Wright Brothers, and Teddy Roosevelt – the people who actually built this country.

And 150,000 Americans who stayed through the storm roared back at him.

The Man Who Invokes God to Justify Abortion

The theological problem with Warnock's sermon is that this is the same man who calls himself a "pro-choice pastor."

He has spent years using the pulpit to justify abortion on demand – including late-term abortions – while claiming to speak for God.

Twenty-five Black pastors signed an open letter telling Warnock directly that his abortion stance was "contrary to Christian teachings" and "a scandal to the faith."

“You have gone on the record saying that you are a ‘pro-choice pastor’ who will ‘always fight for reproductive justice,’” the pastors wrote. “You have publicly expressed your views that abortion is an exercise of ‘human agency and freedom’ that is fully consistent with your role as a shepherd of God’s people,” the letter continued. “We believe these statements represent grave errors of judgment and a lapse in pastoral responsibility, and we entreat you to reconsider them.”

“Your open advocacy of abortion is a scandal to the faith and to the Black community,” the pastors concluded.

He ignored them.

Now he's claiming special access to God's meteorological intentions to tell half the country that their patriotism deserves divine correction.

This is not theology. This is a man who lost his Senate seat using God as a political weapon against the people who beat him.

The voters of Georgia already delivered their verdict on Raphael Warnock.

He should let it stand.
