Democrats thought that Kamala Harris was on a glide path to victory.
The race has gone in a direction they never expected.
And a poker player gave Democrats a tough message about Kamala Harris that left them fuming.
Democrats fret over Kamala Harris’ loss of momentum
Vice President Kamala Harris had a near-perfect launch to her Presidential campaign.
She came out of the gates to storm past former President Donald Trump in the polls in August after an unprecedented media propaganda campaign that included billions in positive coverage.
Kamala was supposed to get bounces from the Democrat National Convention and the September 10 Presidential Debate that would put the race away.
But they never materialized.
After the second assassination attempt, Trump has slowly clawed back to lead to move ahead in all seven swing states in the RealClearPolitics polling average.
A recent NBC News poll told the tale of the race after the debate.
Kamala had a 49% to 45% lead over Trump in September right after the debate.
Now, they’re tied at 48% a piece.
“As summer has turned to fall, any signs of momentum for Kamala Harris have stopped,” Democrat pollster Jeff Horwitt, who conducted the poll, said. “The race is a dead heat.”
Kamala’s popularity declined by seven points in the poll.
Democrats were swept in Kamala-mania this summer and convinced themselves she was Obama in a skirt on her way to a big win on Election Day.
They’re beginning to panic about the possibility of her losing.
Democrats get a reality check about Kamala’s campaign
The joy and good vibes around Kamala’s campaign are gone and the fear has crept in.
“Dread is growing among Democrats that the euphoria over Harris’s entry into the race in July, her successful convention in August, and her debate performance the following month have not translated yet into a decisive lead over Trump,” CNN reported.
Left-wing outlet The New Republic thought that Kamala should be running away with the race and laid the blame at her feet.
“The Democrats are right to freak out. Harris should be trouncing Trump, and the fact that they’re neck and neck is at least partially her fault,” The New Republic wrote.
Democrat data guru Nate Silver – who doubles as a professional poker player – gave The New Republic a reality check about the difficult task in front of Kamala.
“I get annoyed by claims like this because they use ‘should’ in the ‘ought’ sense of the is/ought distinction,” Silver wrote on X. “The two prior Trump elections were close in the Electoral College. This one is, too. Maybe it ‘should’ be easy to trounce Trump, but it isn’t.”
Silver noted that Kamala faces a harder election than either Hillary Clinton or President Joe Biden did against Trump.
“And Harris probably faces a tougher environment than Clinton ’16 or Biden ’20,” Silver continued. “Incumbent parties around the world are struggling, cultural pendulum swinging conservative, inflation and immigration are big deals to voters, plus Biden f***ed up and should have quit sooner.”
Democrats fooled themselves into thinking that Kamala Harris was a generational political talent during the over-the-top hype around her campaign when she started.
