Democrats are trying to figure out how to move forward after their crushing election defeat.
The blame game for the party’s failures is pointing in a surprising direction.
And a House Democrat made one confession that left Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez steaming mad.
A Democrat admits the party has become out of touch with the country
The finger-pointing is well underway for Democrats after the party was blindsided by the outcome of the election.
CNN host Manu Raju spoke with Democrats who admitted their messaging has gone off the rails on his show Inside Politics.
“Democrats are in the very early stages of trying to determine what went so terribly wrong for them in the elections,” Raju said. “And there is no consensus. Moderate Democrats believe the party shifted too far to the Left. Progressives say they struggled to properly convey the benefits of their agenda, and all sides agree they have failed to tap into the deep unrest over economic conditions and the direction of the country.”
The knives are out for the rising far-left wing of the party led by Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY).
Democrats used to work hard to avoid being called socialists and tried to cloak their extremism under a moderate branding.
Ocasio-Cortez and her band of socialists believed that Democrats could do and say whatever they wanted and still win elections.
Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) told Raju that his party had become a bunch of scolds toward anyone who wasn’t in lockstep agreement with them.
“Well, obviously, we’ve lost touch with the majority of Americans,” Moulton explained. “Democrats have a habit of preaching down to people and telling them that if they don’t 100% agree with our orthodox view, often defined by the far left, then they’re just bad people. They’re morally wrong. And that’s not going to win us any elections.”
Democrats want to do a better job of lying to voters
One of the early conclusions from the Democrat Party’s election postmortem is that they need to do a better job of communicating to voters.
This is code for doing a better job of lying about what they want to do.
A tiger doesn’t change its stripes and Democrats aren’t going to back off their far-left agenda.
They just want to do a better job of hiding it from voters and saying whatever they need to say to get elected.
Former President Barack Obama warned Democrats in 2019 that they needed to be careful with their messaging and not get swept up in cancel culture.
“This idea of purity and you’re never compromised and you’re always politically ‘woke’ and all that stuff,” Obama said at the time. “You should get over that quickly.”
He criticized the judgmental politics practiced by the Ocasio-Cortez’s of the party.
“I get a sense among certain young people on social media that the way of making change is to be as judgmental as possible about other people,” Obama claimed. “If I tweet or hashtag about how you didn’t do something right or used the wrong verb, then I can sit back and feel pretty good about myself because ‘Man did you see how woke I was? I called you out!'”
He warned that “casting stones” at people wasn’t the way to get ahead.
Democrats thought there was no way they could lose elections in recent years so it didn’t matter what they said or did.
Now, many Democrats are going to pretend to be a moderate like Vice President Kamala Harris tried to do during the election but it’s all a ruse.
