Woke athletes keep trying to make sports political.
The American people keep sending the message to “stick to sports.”
But now a former NBA star made this insane political rant that will make you sick to your stomach.
J.J. Redick played 17 years in the NBA due to his ability to be one of the league’s best three point shooters.
And due to Redick’s high-profile college career at Duke, Redick was also one of the sport’s biggest villains.
But now Redick works for ESPN and injected his anti-gun politics into the unfolding disaster that is Memphis Grizzlies superstar point guard Ja Morant.
Morant is one of the leaders of the next generation of NBA stars, but the Grizzlies suspended Morant following Morant posting multiple videos of himself brandishing a firearm.
The Grizzlies suspended Morant for eight games last March simply for showing a firearm on Instagram Live.
Redick addressed the situation on ESPN and at first his comments made sense as Redick pointed out that Morant broke no laws as owning a firearm is a Constitutionally protected right in America.
“As far as we know, all of these things have been investigated and no law has been broken,” Redick stated. “I’m not condoning the behavior. I’m not saying there should be no punishment. There should be. There should be consequences. You are the face of the league, you are representing the NBA, you are a role model to young kids. I don’t think half a season is the right answer.”
But then Redick went off the rails ranting and raving about how America is the land of mass shooters and that it’s not fair that the Grizzlies suspended Morant and that Texas Governor Greg Abbott faces no consequences for encouraging Americans to exercise their Second Amendment rights.
Redick fumed that Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles sent out a Christmas card with his family where he held an AR-15.
“We talk about consequences,” Redick added. “In our country right now, gun culture is pervasive. It’s pervasive, we’ve got mass shooting after mass shooting and nobody’s doing a damn thing about it. So I get why we’re so sensitive to this right now, but there’s no consequence for Greg Abbott telling his constituents that they should go buy more guns and then we have mass shooting after mass shooting in Texas. There’s no consequence for an elected Tennessee official to send out a Christmas card holding AR-15s with his young family and then there’s a shooting in his very district, there’s no consequences to that!”
Redick did make one valid point.
The former three-point shooting champ wondered why the Grizzlies suspended Morant for perfectly legal behavior.
“So why are we trying to lay down the hammer on a 23-year-old who didn’t break a law? Explain that to me!” he exclaimed.
