Kamala Harris thought that Democrats were head over heels for her.
But the party is fracturing at the worst possible time.
And a Democrat flipped on Kamala Harris in one betrayal that had her reeling.
Key Arab Democrats in Michigan dump Kamala to support Donald Trump
The biggest internal conflict in the Democrat Party has been over the Biden-Harris administration’s handling of the war between Israel and Hamas.
Many younger Democrats, Arabs, and Muslims have been pushing for Vice President Kamala Harris to call for a permanent ceasefire from Israel.
Kamala has been doing a tightrope act of trying to appease Democrat voters on both sides of the Middle Eastern conflict.
President Joe Biden received more than 100,000 “uncommitted” protest votes in the Michigan Democrat Presidential Primary in February over his refusal to call a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas conflict.
He won the state by about 150,000 votes in the 2020 Election.
Michigan has become one of the must-win Rust Belt swing states for Kamala.
The state is home to a large Arab and Muslim population that’s become increasingly disenchanted with her.
Biden won those populations overwhelmingly in 2020 but now they’re starting to defect to former President Donald Trump.
Dearborn Heights, Michigan, Mayor Bill Bazzi – an immigrant from Lebanon and a Muslim – is encouraging Arabs to vote for Trump.
“Just look where we’re at right now and look where we were before,” Bazzi told reporters on a conference call with Hamtramck, Michigan, Mayor Amer Ghalib.
Ghalib had previously endorsed Trump after meeting with him and is the Mayor of the only Muslim-majority city in the country.
“I can tell you, a lot of people are actually swaying to voting for Trump because they really don’t like what going on,” Bazzi said. “They think their future doesn’t look bright with the administration and the way they’re heading.”
Kamala Harris has angered many Muslim voters
Ghalib said that he appreciated the peace during the first Trump administration.
“The current administration has done nothing, and the war is expanding to other countries, and it could be a regional war and maybe even World War III,” Ghalib said. “President Trump keeps saying that he will end the chaos in the Middle East, and I talked to him personally, I told him ‘your strength is that no wars happened during your term, so we want it to stay that way.’”
The Trump campaign has made inroads with the Muslim and Arab communities in the Detroit area.
Ghalib noted there’s a “portion of the community that’s considering supporting Trump, and historically, those people used to vote Democrat.”
Dearborn Karbalaa Islamic Educational Center Imam Husham Al-Hussainy said he was leaning toward supporting Trump.
“I lean towards Mr. Trump because I found him closer to the Bible, the Torah, and the Quran. Because I support peace, no war,” Al-Hussainy said.
He added the country “deserves to have a strong leader where he can bring peace in this world.”
Ghalib told voters they have nothing to lose with Trump because of how bad things have gotten under the Biden-Harris administration.
“Some people are trying to vote for a third party because they predict that President Trump may do the same thing or even worse,” Ghalib said. “What could be worse than what’s going on now? There’s nothing worse.”
In a close race in Michigan, everything matters on the margins.
Kamala’s undoing could come from angry Democrats revolting against her handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict.
