Taylor Swift came out in support of Kamala Harris.
But the reaction from Nashville wasn’t what she expected.
And a country music star gave Taylor Swift a brutal reality check for endorsing Kamala Harris.
John Rich slams Taylor Swift for endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz
Pop star Taylor Swift was the most coveted celebrity endorsement for Democrats this election cycle.
She finally issued an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris on social media shortly after the Presidential debate.
“I’m voting for [Kamala Harris] because she fights for the rights and causes I believe need a warrior to champion them,” Swift wrote on her Instagram account. “I think she is a steady-handed, gifted leader and I believe we can accomplish so much more in this country if we are led by calm and not chaos.”
Swift singled out Kamala’s running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, for praise.
“I was so heartened and impressed by her selection of running mate [Tim Walz], who has been standing up for LGBTQ+ rights, IVF, and a woman’s right to her own body for decades,” Swift added.
Swift started her career as a country artist before she transitioned to pop music.
Country music star John Rich – one of the outspoken conservatives in the industry – had some choice words for the pop star after she endorsed Kamala during an appearance on OutKick The Morning with Charly Arnolt.
Rich argued that Swift’s support of Walz was concerning because of the age of her fans.
Taylor Swift’s “dangerous” support for Tim Walz
“Go look at Minnesota, what they’re doing up there,” Rich said. “They’re taking kids and taking state funds to take kids in, underage kids who are confused about whatever, and doing permanent damage to their physical bodies that they will never get over.”
Walz signed a controversial bill in 2023 that turned Minnesota into a sanctuary state for transgenders.
Minnesota wouldn’t enforce court orders from other states trying to block kids from receiving transgender treatments.
Rich noted that Swift’s young fans would be exposed to Walz.
“And who’s Taylor Swift’s crowd? Young people,” Rich explained. “People under the age of 18 who are listening to her and now they’re reading about Tim Walz, going, ‘Oh, she really likes Tim Walz, maybe I should like Tim Walz.’”
Swift praised Walz’s support for LGBTQ+ rights in her endorsement of Kamala.
“I mean, you talk about dangerous,” Rich said. “I mean, she is so dangerous right now to young people pushing what she’s pushing, because she does have their ear.”
This is why she was the dream endorsement for Democrats.
Democrats hope that she encourages young people, the lowest turnout demographic, to show up at the polls for Kamala.
But celebrity endorsements have always been overrated.
Hillary Clinton had virtually every celebrity in America behind in the 2016 Election when she lost to former President Donald Trump.
A recent ABC News/Ipsos poll found that Swift’s endorsement of Kamala has almost no impact on voters.
Only 6% said that her endorsement would make them more likely to vote for Kamala.
